Sheets has gone from a 35.3% hard hit percentage all the way up to 52.6%.

OPS nearly 200 points higher than last year.

2-3 tonight, a homer, a walk, 3 rbi's. up to .833 OPS. good for him! he just looks like a baseball player, he was bound to figure something out; I'm also not super disappointed he's not on the team anymore. He still can't hit lefties (albeit better) and can't play the outfield.

Notably, he has eerily similar stats as he did his rookie year with the Sox. The OPS is almost exactly the same through roughly the same amount of plate appearances...same number of homers and rbi's -- so are these stats meaningful? His WAR is about 6 times higher.

TA has been DFA'd by the Angels. What a downfall.

Someone could write a book about him.

Angels also sent Eder to AAA.

I was hoping he would recover, but it seems obvious the injuries sapped the fast twitch in his legs. He has no explosiveness left, and that was his game.

The Padres' offensive production in left field has increased since they began playing Gavin Sheets there. But, as you may have guessed, that means their first-base/DH production has suffered.

Sheets is not a natural left fielder. He was merely the best option on a team that ranks 29th out of 30 in offensive production at the position (per wRC+, an all-encompassing hitting metric). Then, Sheets exited Sunday's series finale against the Pirates after crashing hard into the left-field wall.

Sheets' status remains unclear, but whatever the outcome, the Padres should aim to keep him at DH or first base. Their top priority should be adding another bat to a lineup that features a handful of superstars -- but also a couple of glaring holes. There's no better place to do it than left field, a traditionally bat-first position, where it shouldn't be all that difficult to find a decent No. 8 hitter.

Sounds like Yaz is going to hang them up soon. Signed on as MiLB depth for the Red Sox, but no clear path to the majors now that their tandem seems set.

Omar Narvaez signed a MiLB deal with the Astros. Wouldn't have minded him back in Charlotte with Teel getting the call, but alas.

Jose "Popeye" Rodriguez (remember him?) got reinstated from his 1 year gambling suspension and promptly nontendered by the Phillies, but resigned to a minors deal to get back in game shape. Still just 24.

Dylan Cease with 7 shutout innings against the Dodgers tonight...exorcising some demons.  ERA down to 4.28 on the season.

He and Michael King continue to be in trade and extension discussions.

4.5 fWAR 2021

4.4 fWAR 2022

3.6 fWAR 2023

4.8 fWAR 2024

trending around 1.8-2.0 fWAR after tonight's game, 11 strikeouts
