Biggest reason why the 2016 rebuild failed. Not their failure to sign Machado or Harper.

Young core offensive players either got hurt or didn't sustain initial success...or never even found their Sox identity, guys like Kopech and Lopez in addition to the oft-mentioned Robert/Moncada/Jimenez.

Veteran signings/trades like Grandal Keuchel Kimbrel Meat and Potatoes Benintendi Graveman Kelly all hit downsides instead of peaks.

(Rodon and Anderson went from All-Stars to players who "disappeared" without replacement.)

It was really these first two hits simultaneously with the "next wave" of talent coming up dry...that 29th fWAR ranking.

All the more reason to just pick your next GM without holding any interviews.  That’s how you find the best talent.

  • But their drafting strategy has changed so much. Kenny Williams was focused on drafting athletes, Rick Hahn is after more complete ball players. This will be a major upgrade.

At one time, the Sox at least had some talented players. For some reason, they didn't go the post season all that often, but there were times they could provide some entertainment. But since 2008, they have been a complete disaster. There is little reason to the ballpark to watch this team. When this will change is anyone's guess. You have to go back to the 1970s to see a team this bad. It is amazing to see how this FO continues to let this team reach new lows.

The front office does what the owner tells them to do and the owner continues to make money so he's very happy with the status quo.

To be fair...2010 and 2012 were at least fun/competitive seasons compared to 2022-24.
