I don't think his presence on this roster, lineup and leadoff spot exposes some deep incompetence in Venable or Getz, but he's not a good defender, and outside of a little pop, has no real offensive upside. Dominic Fletcher could most probably give you more than Palacios does, here. Fletcher is hitting, and is a better fielder. Fletcher also has an option left in case they want to shuttle him back to AAA when Tauchman returns. Maybe they just want Fletcher to be playing out of his head in order to get back on the 40-man. That just gets to be totally demoralizing. Especially with most Central teams GL having pretty excellent pens, like all the playoff intra-divisional teams last year.
