2025 Trade deadline rumors thread

Recommended Posts

Dan Plesac was on the Score this morning and he is really big on Houser being a difference maker for a contending team looking for pitching.  Dan mentioned that he has seen Houser pitch twice in person and is impressed.

Another name came up that the Cubs would be interested in, Zac Gallen. I heard Zac on I think it was Bar Stool, and he was saying that he didn't think with him being a fly ball pitcher he would be a good fit for Wrigley.

That would be cool if the league saw Houser like that. He kind of feels like Fedde to me, where the league just doesn't trust him, and sure don't want to reward the Sox for their good luck.

They definitely need a starter and a 3B.  It will be interesting to see how balls out they go on their needs or if they just grab a cheaper guy like Houser.  I think they try to aim higher first, but he’s a fallback option.

I think it’s just poor timing unfortunately.  If Houser was with the Sox to start the season and did this from the beginning, perhaps that would’ve been enough starts to convince teams that this is the guy he truly is, at least for this season.  Who knows though, maybe there will be some competing offers for the cheap guy who isn’t earning jack this year.

f*** it, package Robert, Houser, a reliever, Lee and cash to the Padres since they seem to have interest in Robert and Lee and can probably pitching help.

I have seen worse Ideas than putting Houser and Robert together to push us up a prospect level.

It took exactly 3 posts in this thread.

The very first post in this thread had trade expectations for Josh Rojas, who has been somewhere around the 8th worst player in ALL of baseball. If you throw chum in the water, expect sharks.

For the record, of all players, I think the pen might surprise to the upside of the trade market.

I think Steven Wilson finally gets moved for something (not  great, but OK)

Also, put on the record for Altavilla moving as well.

Thanks, and honestly I just re-read my third post of this thread again and don’t think I was even being snarky or trolling.  Rojas is simply a bad player and I would be a bit surprised if he was actually traded.  And I would be even more shocked if Rojas actually returns anything of value at all.

He's been worth -1.2 bWAR and has a .483 OPS.

He signed a 1 year $3.5M contract so he's probably still owed somewhere around $1.3M or so?

I would be absolutely stunned if anyone had any interest in trading for him.

Robert, for sure. Houser, too. Wilson. If Lee's getting feelers, probably him, too. Altavilla seems probable. Tauchman.

Civale's got 2 starts before the deadline. Did he look good in his first five innings against Cleveland? If he does that again, someone could take a flier. Maybe one of Eisert, Gilbert or Alexander. I would think that if anybody kicks the tires on Slater, he's gone.

I like that turn of phrase.

Meanwhile, Frazier is at least at 0.4 bWAR and the team that he played for last season and that has some familiarity with him decided to reacquire him.  Seems like different circumstances to me.

Hence, the pivot to we can't blame Getz for the return and starting the thread that he's worth something.

I think Robert, Houser, and Tauchman are slam dunks to be moved. Slater is back to performing against lefties so I think you're right that he may get some interest.

There are numerous relievers that could be moved, but not sure we get much of anything in return for them. I would expect Civale has more value eating innings the rest of the year than he does on a return, so I would expect to see him stay.

Good point, Matthew Boyd validates what you are saying about starting the season with a club.

My guess to who is moved (or at least who should be):

Luis Robert Jr OF (fucked up not trading him sooner but time to move on and include cash)

Mike Tauchman (cheap and has another year of control but 34 years old, he's one of their better trade chips so just deal him and worry about who plays of the OF next year in the offseason)

Adrian Houser SP (cheap, free agent after this year)

Austin Slater (good numbers against lefties again) OF

Aaron Civale SP (has to pitch well his next 2 starts)

Steven Wilson RP (has 2 more years of control, close the book on the Cease deal)

Korey Lee (buried on the depth chart a bit and has interest)

Dan Altavilla (has pitched well, now sell)

And then I'm going to guess a surprise trade like Sosa, Martin, Burke, Cannon (I feel like those last 3 have similar floors to where they are mid-rotation starters at best long-term and honestly just feel like filler right now).

Feel like there's enough guys in AAA (guys who deserve a look and other fodder) that can come up and hold down the fort.

Yeah, without the track record and being a free agent at the end of the year, no team is going to give up a haul. That said, he's still probably their best trade piece.

Between Clevenger, Syndegaard, S. Smith, Vasil and Burke, they have innings covered for the rest of the year. For some reason, Sosa just seems like a guy who could get interest, and they'd be happy to move on, given the lack of a position that he commands.

Tauchman should absolutely go to the best offer.  I don't think it will be a ton, but there is no reason to keep him.

Depends on the return. If its just random low A wildcard, you can get that a year from now and you keep him.

I'm not even counting Clevinger since he should never be on this team again, but Gilbert has also been a starter. And Martin Perez is also coming back at some point. Syndergaard like you said.
