I wouldn't bet on it.  Dude could just as easily be washed out in a year.

Civale's got 2 starts before the deadline. Did he look good in his first five innings against Cleveland? If he does that again, someone could take a flier. Maybe one of Eisert, Gilbert or Alexander. I would think that if anybody kicks the tires on Slater, he's gone. 

I can’t imagine Lee being worth more in trading away rather than retaining him as a backup catcher if the Sox decide to move either Quero or Teel from catcher to 1B.  He’s 26.  Keep him as a backup catcher.  I even like the idea of all three guys on the roster.

Yeah, it would really depend on if they decide to move one of Teel/Quero or transition one of them to another position long-term. If it's keeping him as the third catcher on an MLB roster so both Teel/Quero can be in the lineup, I'd rather just move him while there is interest and let some other catcher rot on the bench to be used in am emergency situations.

They both need to be developed as C. They aren't horrible defenders and neither one hits enough for any other full time position.

If we could package various players together to get Justin Crawford somehow that would be great. Dunno what PHI needs tho.

Agreed, which is why I wouldn't be surprised at all if one is moved for say, an OF prospect of similar value.

I'd probably just keep them both for now. I don't see any rush to move them we have plenty of AB for both them if we would just configure the roster properly in another march towards 110+ losses.

Yeah, just alternate them at C and DH and just have some random older veteran wanting to hang on to his career that can be a mentor or Blake Sabol (a guy who has also played 1B and OF) as the "in case of injury" guy.

Tauchman is having a nice season we all agree, and he's still probably a sub 2 WAR player when its all said and done. A 35 year old Tauchman at ~$4Mish who turns into Josh Rojas will get you nothing at all. And if he's the same player, do you see anyway he has more value than he does right now? I don't.

Get him out of here and give Julks, Fletcher, etc. those AB's rest of the way.

Part of the issue is that Brooks Baldwin is the emergency catcher on the team. He played it in HS.

I know and I’m responding to a comment where if the roster was built for both to start at C/DH and having a rando third catcher who basically has no value other than he might catch in an emergency. Though I’d rather just risk losing the DH in a meaningless year (same goes with next year).

I agree and fine with that for now but not sure either one can hit enough for that spot long term.

We have no meaningful close outfield prospects and if we do need a spot, well, hopefully there are two other spots to draw from (and a dh spot for that matter).  At 3-4ish million, he can help provide some line-up protection (no matter how minor) and leadership to the actual meaningful prospects thats worth more than a low A wildcard. Good to bring up Rojas because that is the usual value youll get at that same price. If they can get something decent, then yeah, deal him though.

Eventually it will sort itself out.  We have years before it matters.
