RIP Hulk Hogan

Featured Replies

Well, I still have a special place in my heart for the character(not the guy, though)

Hulk Hogan, dead at 71

I’m just surprised he didn’t kick out right after being pronounced dead

Yeah, growing up in the 80s, my sister and I watched pro wrestling religiously.  Hulk Hogan WAS pro wrestling.  As you said, the character was great.

I literally laughed out loud.

Wow. This one hurts.

Brutal.  RIP, Hollywood.  One of the best matches of all time for the little amount of work he could still do.  The crowd reaction, the playing to the crowd, and both Hollywood and The Rock changing roles from heel to babyface during the course of the match.

I’m not sure why people feel a need to couch their statements. The guy was a fucking icon. No need to be anything but complimentary of him at his passing.

The man was wrestling.

Anyone who was a kid in the 80’s and 90’s and was a wrestling fan knows he was a huge part of their memories.  From the matches with Iron Sheik, Andre passing the torch to him, the Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth feud, Ultimate Warrior, to his rebirth in WCW as Hollywood with the nWo and his long feud with Crow Sting.  I remember watching all of that stuff back when wrestling was at its pinnacle.

His racist statements about his daughter’s boyfriend.

the racist comments about black people and busting the union is enough for me.  You wanna add the street racing element that brain damaged his kids friend and the entire fallout from that, that’s fine too,  hulk hogan was a legendary character in the business, Terry Bollea was a piece of s%*# person

The street racing thing is the only thing I ever remember hearing about, and honestly completely forgot about it.

It was a very big story at the time.

Understood where you’re all coming from, and appreciate you guys sharing the info. But I’m still gonna refrain from speaking negatively about someone who just died.

I think it's fair to be able to separate the two.

He gave a lot of people (myself very much included) a ton of great memories growing up, he was an icon in his sport, I was fortunate to meet him a handful of times as well, always was very nice in interactions.

Doesn't mean he didn't have some serious bagage that understandably upset a lot of people.

However, I agree that when he dies, I'm not going to rag on someone from memorializing the person. If you didn't like them, maybe keep it to yourself this go around, really no need to bring it all back up when they die.

Yes, Hulk did raise a moronic man child in Nick that probably still thinks he did nothing wrong in his life.  In 2007, the guy put his best friend into a paralyzed vegetative state from drunk and reckless driving while drag racing.  Hulk actually blamed the best friend/victim in recorded calls to his son Nick while he was in jail.  In 2023, Nick got busted for a DUI so what do you do after that?  Surely the wise move is to take your son on tour to bars, clubs, and restaurants around the country in order to shill your Real American Beer.  Perhaps that wasn’t the wisest of decisions when your son obviously has a problem with drinking.  That was just a totally awful decision and look.

I remember the Hulkster did a small video that they showed at the United Center for that game 4 watch party of the 2005 World Series.....the Soxamaniacs loved it, me included.
