Baldwin took a bad route, should have caught it. They gave him an error which sort of surprises me.

Baldwin uniquely puzzles me in the field. There's absolutely no reason for him to look so bad . Lack of experience is a factor but he gets to balls and sometime just misses them like he relaxes just for a second at the last instance instead of really concentrating on finishing .

Some players are simply much more adept at rotating positions seamlessly from a defensive standpoint.

Others are better sticking to one position like Moncada or Vargas at third base.

Last night the Padres had Sheets playing LF.

Well that's because they lost Laureano to a fractured finger and are now trying to figure out the best lineup for the first round next week on the fly.

I still feel like Brooks could be our version of Ben Zobrist...maybe not as good...or half as good...but that AAAA kind of player who figures it out in his mid 20s and plays every position. Zobrist gave the Devil Rays -0.6 WAR and -1.1 WAR in his first MLB seasons at age 25 and 26.

His defense is very puzzling but he has some surprising power and pretty much came out of no where. 15th rounder who OPS'd .548 as a 21-year-old in rookie/a ball...then made massive strides in A/A+ and AA/AAA. His path to MLB is an impressive one to me and I bet he could continue to get better. That dog in him or whatever.

I don't think he's gonna produce a 9 WAR season like Zobrist did, but I think he could be a pretty good regular. I bet he keeps improving.

I just want to let everyone know I’m gonna put this GameThread in archives later.  Just putting it out there.  So everyone knows.  If you want to see the discussion, you can go to the archives, because that’s where it’s gonna be.  Just so everyone is aware

The guy is fast enough and athletic enough. He's made some amazing catches but he has to be a lot more consistent on routine to harder to track down but catchable balls. He just needs time out there learning how to read and anticipate  especially on opposite field drives.

1. For whatever reason this software doesn’t conform everything.  I have just gotten into the habit of saving screenshots for a post and immediately deleting off my phone.

2. I couldn’t believe I was called to the carpet for putting that GameThread on archives like I do every day.

 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
