2025 By the Numbers...

Well we’ve made it through another brutal, desultory, awful baseball season.

The only real question this off season is, what does JR allow Getz to do with labor uncertainty on the horizon?????

Three straight seasons with at least 100 losses. That’s the first time in the 125-year history of the franchise that has happened.

AND it’s also the fourth time in the last eight years they’ve done this. They also lost 100 games in 2018.

The three-year total of 324 losses is the worst stretch in franchise history. That breaks the previous mark of 295 losses from 1968 through the 1970 years.

The hitting was inconsistent at best, the starting pitching was bad, the bullpen was the worst in baseball and this team still is terrible defensively and in fundamentals. And they continue to not be able to keep players healthy especially pitchers as they were gutted with TJS starting in the spring.

The Sox DID NOT WIN A GAME all year against Baltimore (0-6) and DID NOT WIN A GAME all year at Cleveland (0-6) and at Kansas City (0-7).

By the Numbers…

Let’s start with the pitching.

17 times the White Sox took a lead into the 7th inning or later…yet lost the game. (This comes on the heels of last season when this happened an incredible 29 times!)

Here is the breakdown:

April 6 @ Detroit (9th) Ellard/Leasure

April 27 @ Athletics (10th) Leasure

May 6 @ Kansas City (9th) Booser

May 10 Miami (7th) Wilson

May 21 Seattle (8th) Vasil

May 25 Texas (9th) Leasure

May 26 @ N.Y. Mets (8th) Booser

June 14 @ Texas (7th) Taylor

June 19 St. Louis Game #1 (8th) Booser

July 2 @ L.A. Dodgers (9th) Taylor/Wilson

August 3 @ L.A. Angels (7th) Vasil

August 7 @ Seattle (10th) Eisert

August 17 @ Kansas City (7th) Wilson

August 19 @ Alanta (8th) Alexander/Wilson

August 26 Kansas City (9th) Taylor/Alexander

September 23 @ N.Y. Yankees (9th) Eisert

September 27 @ Wahington (7th) Wilson/Eisert

The individuals responsible (in some cases there was more than one pitcher in the decisive inning)

Alexander        1

Booser             3

Eisert               2 ½

Ellard               ½

Leasure            2 ½

Taylor              2

Vasil                 2

Wilson             3 ½

The Sox blew the lead:

In the 7th inning : 5 times

In the 8th inning:  4 times

In the 9th inning:  6 times

In the 10th inning: 2 times

Now as far as the offense:

83 times the Sox scored three runs or less in a game this year. That’s 51%.

They were an abysmal 15-36 in one-run games.

10 times they trailed in the 7th inning or later and won the game.

Here is the breakdown of what inning they took the lead or tied and wound up winning:

April 20 @ Boston (7th)

June 22 @ Toronto (8th)

June 29 San Francisco (7th)

July 11 Cleveland Game #2 (8th)

July 23 @ Tampa Bay (8th)

September 1 @ Minnesota (8th)

September 3 @ Minnesota (9th)

September 4 @ Minnesota (7th)

September 7 @ Detroit (7th)

September 26 @ Washington (9th)

The Sox tied or took the lead in a game they’d win:

In the 7th inning: 4 times

In the 8th inning: 4 times

In the 9th inning: 2 times

This organization is so bad in so many areas both on and off the field that in my opinion they only hope, the only chance they have is for Ishbia to take over and see what changes. I mean how can he be worse than Reinsdorf?

I just hope I’m still alive to see it.

What did he say that wasn’t true?

The article does well in outlining how much of an uphill battle the org still faces, but I just can’t take comments like this seriously:

“We are to celebrate the heartiness of 60 wins and bypass the obvious cancers still remaining”

JFC no one’s saying you need to do either of these things. So damn dramatic.

I thought he was hinting at Jerry or TLR with that comment.  🤣

The biggest cancer is the owner.

In 2016, 27 players made their Sox debut. A franchise record at the time.

The last two seasons, 42 players made their Sox debut.
The last three seasons of 100+ losses, 109 players made their Sox debut.

I'm too old for that purple prose crap as well but anybody still reading SSS has come to expect and probably enjoy it.
