Sox fire Katz and Thames

It’s genuinely a really easy comparison to make. Two of the longest tenured managers in baseball history with a roughly equal winning percentage. Multi- time managers of the year, World Series winners. Both came out of retirement to manage again (though Tito’s retirement was considerably shorter). Terry will have to win one more WS and manager of the year to catch La Russa though. I’m unsure what point you’re trying to make.

One guy was out for a year and still on top. The other was out for over a decade and was not.  It's fully about now, now the 1980s.

Well after my rant in the other thread, maybe the Sox see the need to have coaches instead of over the hill players acting as coaches.

  • Maybe  Clevinger is going to pivot into coaching.

  • Look at Ray Ray Run
    Look at Ray Ray Run

Amazing to see so many coaches released after the "B" performance that was filled with positive things.

The actual comparison was "what if Francona was hired and put up the same season as Venable"? If he put up the same 60-102, nrockway surmised people would wail about the game having passed Francona like they did with TLR. TLR and Francona were not "compared".

Francona would never have come back for the White Sox job...especially considering how he was let go by the team in the 1990s.

Should have just walked Muncy in the first place.

Fathom won't want Ortiz hitting here.

Treinen in early.

Looks like Sasaki still the closer.

Gotta make Treinen work harder than that...

You're not in the game thread.

The Brewers aren't in the game thread, either.

This post is at least relevant to the TLR portion here, no?

And it happened against the Dodgers in both examples...haha.

Are we actually comparing Tony LaRussa and Max Muncy now?

Referencing TLR walking Muncy with 2 strikes.

It's a joke, I'm making.

The comparison wouldn't be same because of their history's.  That's literally the point

“What if’s” are just that.  Hypothetical nonsense to defend your own argument.

What if Getz didn’t go 101-223 over his first two seasons as GM of the Sox?  But he did, which is why there are no GM of the year awards in his future.

Francona’s team won 83 games in a tough division.  That’s what actually happened.

Not saying this is Katz but just along the lines…

I didn't have an argument, here. My argument is the "are we actually comparing [x] and [y]" is a nonsense deflection. Pretty much all baseball talk is about comparing players, teams and eras.

I am surprise you would barrel in and shoehorn your same "I hate Chris Getz" BS into every single string. Maybe just pay attention to the discussion and participate in that?

And seriously, when a team squeezes into the playoffs with 83 wins, there was nothing "tough" about their path.

LaRussa's WS team won 83 games. 83 seems like a lot with all the celebrating you do for 60. Not only that, knock fans who think 60 wins really sucks.

Then why did you challenge me on the same point between a prime Tito and over the hill TLR?

What "same point" are you talking about? The comparison was between Francona and Venable. The reference to TLR was in passing. I'm really not understanding your point at all. Are you really policing whether people can mention two managers in the same comment?

I mean, surely you're not saying that Chris Getz did such a great job assembling a roster that a truly masterful Terry Francona could have made the playoffs with it.

I was actually referring to nrockway’s post.

I brought up Getz because he’s one of the two big reasons (along with Jerry) that the Sox have the stinky record that they do.  We were talking about managerial records and GMs are a big part of that, as are owners.

Meanwhile, 83 wins for the Reds this year along with a playoff berth wasn’t a tough path, yet you praise Getz for helping to “improve” the Sox record from 41 wins to 60.  You and most other Sox fans would literally cream in their pants if Getz managed to put up an 83 win season within the next 3 seasons.

Has to be a minor league position, right?

He’s the hottest minor league pitching coach candidate the world has ever seen. The White Sox beat everyone out because this guy wants to work with the great Chris Getz. Just ask Westeddy.
