40 Man Roster Rule 5 Decisions

This is more of my line of thinking.  I think the hype over a few of these guys is way overblown.  While they have the tools to destroy the minors, the 2nd tier guys lack that extra something which major leaguers usually feature.  The guys who seem to get picked in Rule 5 have more raw stuff with less refinement, versus tons of refinement without raw stuff.

Me too. I think Mason Adams is the only guy on which we disagree, and I'm with James Fox that he's just the kind of guy a team would grab up and stow, if they wanted a #4-#5 rotation guy end of the year.

It's more about who is at risk of getting picked, not who would you miss. Every team has a bunch of guys who throw hard but not for strikes, so they wouldn't be grabbing one of ours to tie up a roster spot with all year.

In regards to the Sox, if they were trying to contend and had limited 40-man space to work with, leaving him off would make more sense given the injury. They aren't trying to contend and have plenty o

  • Mason Adams 100% gets taken in the R5 if Sox don’t protect him. He needs to be added to the 40-man.

  • I left Eisert off this iteration cuz I kinda hate him. You are correct. He probably makes it. Plenty of other guys who could go tho.

Absolutely should take advantage of a high Rule 5 pick again

Pitchers always seem to be the Rule 5 popular targets. Who can't use a bullpen arm?   I think Getz has earned the right to pick the best pitcher to call on.  The selection of Smith can't be argued with.

Pintar is my dark horse selection.  We need outfielders, and a 5th outfielder isn't that big of a gamble.  Has speed & defense, which I always love.

FYI Rule 5 draft is today at 1PM Chicago time and will be livestreamed on mlb.com
