You know you CAN draft power hitters anywhere in the draft right?  Listing guys who aren't drafted,  and who were drafted as an all glove,  we hope he hits, SS is irrelevant. It's blue sky imagineering.

The White Sox have taken power bats they just haven't drafted one dimensional power bats in the top rounds for the past couple years.

The Sox have 3 shortstops in the system, and might get a top draft pick this year, where a couple shortstops head the prospect lists. Sorry to confuse you with hypotheticals. I'm glad you think the most important position on the diamond is irrelevant. Maybe that's why you hate GMs who think the shortstop will still be around for a few years.

The Sox have drafted guys like DePino and Wolkow. We'll see if they can develop them.

Why are we suddenly acting like taking "up the middle" athletes is some kind of new cutting edge/niche advantage or strategy?

The Padres started 7 players in 2024 who began their careers as SS's at other positions around the diamond...

Tatis RF, Merrill CF, Machado 3B, Arraez 1B/DH, Cronenworth 1B/2B/DH, Profar LF, Bogaerts 2B.

Actual starter: Ha-Seong Kim

That didn't exactly lead to a WS title...but they did have LA down 2-1 in the ALDS.

And the White Sox still haven't produced ONE starting outfield candidate of their own that was drafted and developed to big league success (projected 2.5 fWAR or higher floor)...at least in the last decade or so.

Note:  Braden's acquisition model is far from repeatable.

Also to be noted:  "hating" on prospects doesn't have anything to do with providing a realistic, balanced and objective (based on defined measurables) as possible perspective on their relative flaws and strengths.

And if Sox fans do tend to lean more in the skeptical direction, there just might be a tangible reason for that based on years of frustrating fandom that's going to take years of winning/success in order to erase.

Lmao are we not to comment on players because we might hurt your feelings?  Please list the players we can only say good things about, we certainly don’t want to cross your line of unnecessary comments

Are the only tickets still remaining SRO?

That's lot of excitement over a .679 hitter repeating Kannapolis with almost 150 k's.

At least DePino's 42 contact number at the Baseball Cube is a major improvement over Wolkow's 8.

Fwiw, single digit numbers here are the equivalent of white rhinos.

For comparison, Colson Montgomery's a more robust 61, and Tim Elko at 22.

Sam Abbott was a 4.  And a better water polo player, unfortunately. Lowest I could find.

Which act is the one where you claim a SS who hasn't been drafted yet, in a draft that hasn't happened yet, in a draft that hasn't been seeded yet, is a name worth mentioning as a future White Sox 1B, but then getting upset because when you called them a future 1B, you apparently forgot that meant they then wouldn't be playing SS, none of this has any basis in reality?

So when you say the Sox won't be competitive until 2030, you babbling like some other famous commenter here with no basis in reality? Because in case nobody's told you, 2030 hasn't happened, yet.

Dude, you pick the weirdest s%*# to melt down over.

Like the need to run into a thread where a seasoned professional doesn't think the White Sox will be good for years and correct everyone who agrees?

Wolkow was worth a shot but it’s fairly obvious that the dude is never sniffing the majors.

Apparently, you don't know the new rule - you can't assume anything about the future because that's not "based in reality". Unless you're a seasoned professional, of course...

There is nothing wrong with drafting guys like Wolkow if you have the pieces in place and you think you can do the dev work on them.  The problem comes when someone is trying to call them future starters on a playoff team, just because they are in the system, or even better, when they aren't even drafted yet, and apply them anyway.

Is that a "problem"? It's a baseball message board. If you're referring to me, I mentioned two names, then said, "We'll see if they can develop them". You seem to make up things to kill discussions over.

Please explain what the "problem" is, because you're pointing out things that didn't happen. Do you not like too much baseball talk on a baseball message board?

Call me crazy, but calling a kid who still hasn't drawn a paycheck to play baseball, a future White Sox 1B doesn't seem like a thing that furthers discussion, and is quite literally what turned this into a tete a tete over who can be called a future 1B instead of you crapping on Tim Elko.

I guess I just don’t see a legit 1B prospect in the Sox org anywhere unless they go after one in a future draft.  My guess is that they will just shift a current player there, which won’t be good enough either.

I agree with most of this. They're upgrading everything, beefing up minor league hitting with coordinators and coaches. At some point, they have to develop a power hitter, right?

Which was my entire original point in saying that guy doesn't seem to exist now.

I think everybody here agrees that Tim Elko is most likely not a major league hitter. Rereading my comments, the worst I said about Tim Elko was that the Sox don't need to see him go to the plate without a plan and strikeout - for 4 months - to say that he had a shot.

All I did was put a name on the notion that the White Sox may take a shortstop if they get a high draft pick. They just took 4 shortstops in their top 11 picks in the 2025 draft. I don't think it's a stretch to draw from that a propensity to stick to the most athletic player on the diamond and move the weakest to other positions in next year's draft.

I am truly sorry for confusing you with the thought that I might believe next year's draft already took place, and they drafted Cholowsky.

Karine Jean-Pierre articulated slightly better arguments recently...

A few months ago you were telling us how he could step in for Vaughn.
