The Rockies set a dubious record with the worst run differential since 1901 at minus-424, 79 runs worse than the 1932 Red Sox (who previously had the worst mark in the modern era). That gives the Rockies a strong case as the worst team of all time, or at least the worst since the 1890s if early baseball is your thing. While the Rockies could no doubt dominate 1890s baseball, the going will be difficult in 2026. What do they even do in the offseason? They don't have a Garrett Crochet to trade like the White Sox did last offseason, so it's probably more scrounging around for players who are blocked elsewhere and maybe finding some free talent. You have to pay an extra premium to get players to sign with the White Sox. It’s not just “offer the most money” anymore. It’s “offer the most money plus x%”. I’m not sure that will ever allow multiple good signings.

Eventually with new ownership I think premier free agents will want to play with the Sox, the first thing would be showing the baseball world that the franchise is committed to winning. November 2, 2025Nov 2 The Sox are not in compete now mode, so any FA they sign will not move the needle anywhere but down. If you sign Tucker, Bellinger, Framber, maybe Cease and Naylor, you are tangibly improving your club. Sox aren’t gonna do that. Everyone else is sorta meh, so whether people want to play here is kinda moot. I could see them picking up Tauchman, signing a platoon bat like Lane Thomas or maybe Austin Hayes, then maybe Adrian Houser and someone like Gregory Soto and calling it an offseason. I think they won’t spend until they know what they have in Braden, Hagen, Schultz, McDougal, and Antonacci. If some of those guys, esp Braden, are good enough to be part of the core, I could see them going after a big fish after that.

Agreed, I view this round of FA as an investment to earn a better perception around the league for when we actually need FAs to sign here in a couple of years. I'd rather get rid of that "ew, I don't want to sign there" stink on some B+ free agents so we aren't out of the running on the better FAs in the (hopefully) near future.

When a new owner comes in he will have to fire everyone and fix things from the ground up. "White Sox fans will be disappointed to know that this team is still not ready to climb out of the AL Central basement. Significant free-agent additions are unlikely at this point in the rebuild, and there’s a good chance the veterans who stabilized the bullpen will either regress or pitch for other teams next year. The measure of progress in Chicago in 2026 will be the development of several talented youngsters. Fans should be watching Meidroth, Colson Montgomery, Vargas, Sosa, Shane Smith, Burke and Taylor to determine which members of that group can be part of a core that eventually contends for a postseason berth.
