23 hours ago23 hr Figured the main Mune thread could get a new title.Dude is bonkers. Ishbia should strong arm Reinsdorf in whatever capacity he can, because a Japanese superstar would be an amazing team asset to have when opening a new stadium.

Vlad Jr. is probably the best comp. Could easily see him bottoming out for the last ten years of that. Alonso and Schwarber each around 33.5+ per year on shorter deals

Vlad Jr. got paid so much due to youth and potential, but yeah, will likely bottom out on that massive deal. You are comparing a 26/27 year old to Schwarber who signed an extension in December at age 32 and Alonso who signed with Baltimore at age 31. Those aren’t really good comparisons.Ohtani doesn’t make sense either because of his unicorn-dual use status.Kyle Tucker plays RF and at least had a history of being a high level outfield defender.Jose Abreu with more pop and a lower batting average also comes to mind.but seems his fast start has Jose Abreu 2014/Carlos Quentin 2008 being bypassed, lolSoto is a bat first outfielder but that still has a lot more fWAR valueAnd of course on the Southside you have Konerko and post MVP level Frank Thomas…that incredible run of hitting was 1990-1997-98 or thereabouts.David Ortiz would be another decent comp…imo Edited 11 hours ago11 hr by caulfield12

I have no problem with them waiting until after this year or next year, at least they would have a better idea of what he really is, vs extrapolating from 26 game sample
8 hours ago8 hr I've seen a little chatter about NYY potentially going for a Ben Rice extension. Could provide another possible comp if they do.

Obviously some of it is the affability of Mune himself, but in addition to the on field stuff it's been great to watch how comfortably he seems to have settled in even after missing some time with the team for the WBC.I would extend him 5 years x $40M.

Probably mostly to minimize his personal tax hit though.
