Neil Funk was really underappreciated too. Major troll, very amusing, until he lost his eyesight and started confusing Taj Gibson and Tyrus Thomas. I think Schriff could get better if he actually tried at his job. And didn't put his foot in his mouth 100 times a season. I ain't mad if he's gone after next season, I'm also not mad that they moved on from the guy who has grander ambitions than local announcer. Mike Breen is also a great national announcer but sucks listening to on Knicks games, Clyde Frazier does all the heavy lifting. I couldn't imagine Joe Buck, Al Michaels, etc broadcasting local games. These guys all have national interests they don't want to piss off. Benetti knows how his bread is buttered and it isn't by Chicago or Detroit. It's not so much homerism as actually rooting for your team. Every 50-50 call, Benetti is all like, "hmm, I dunno, it's pretty close..." like come on man, support the team. 50-50 calls are usually pretty close, which is why umpires mess them up and there are challenges. I’d rather the umpires get the call correct the majority of time than have it simply go the Sox way every time.

You can both, support the team, and accurately describe the game at the same time. The idea that you can't is absurd.

"hmm, I dunno, I don't think that call should favor the Sox" is not the attitude to have. Dude also has no depth perception, could never tell a home run off the bat. He's much better at both football and basketball. Loved when he filled in for Bulls games. Try to catch whatever NFL game he's announcing. He really reminds me of a better, non-lame version of Joe Buck. His future is bright. But I got tired of listening to his constant "unbiased" haterade at the local level. Make or break year for Schriff. I think it's a contract year. Derrick Rose took a leap and won MVP his third season, maybe Schriff will do the same. He'd be fine if he knew anything at all about the sport. Maybe somebody told him to watch some baseball. What a weird take. If you’re not sure, you should be a homer and believe every call is the Sox way? 1
Buehrle>Wood
Benetti is a much better national announcer than he is a local one. Glad he moved on, which happened because he wanted more money to do less games. Hard to blame the Sox for that.

This from one of six sources I spoke with: “Jason Benetti’s deal with the Sox is up, the Sox hold the option for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He went to Fox to negotiate that deal with them after he was told to do it and then come back to the Sox and they’d work something out. Jason wanted to get the deal done with the Sox first and then go to Fox or ESPN or whoever. Turns out when he came back to the Sox and said that he needs 40 days off so he can do the Fox work he was told, ‘no, that’s not happening.’ So I don’t know what’s going to happen to him or Steve Stone.”
77 Hitmen
The only problem I had with Benetti was too many corny "dad" jokes. Otherwise, he was great - a home-grown "voice of the Sox" announcer who could have been here for decades while getting some national broadcasts too. But, we're Sox fans and can't have good things. At least he didn't jump ship to the Cubs - which would have been yet another PR win for the North Siders as they know how to promote their on-air talent. I wonder how well liked he is in Detroit? Some talk radio blowhard ripping on him doesn't tell me what the fanbase in general thinks of him. Schriffen is simply not watchable. He doesn't belong in a MLB broadcast booth. But Uncle Jerry wants someone there who will tell us we're eating prime rib when in reality they're serving us a s%*# sandwich. soxrwhite
Benetti and Stone were excellent together at the beginning. By the end the act had worn thin..................Schriffen is so bad at times its actually entertaining laughing at him. The idea that you can't is absurd. This is true. There should be a balance there. I just think once you start calling the game with too much of your heart than your head (i.e. always leaning the Sox way on 50-50 calls), you start getting into the Schriffen territory of thinking you can sell a product to fans that isn't actually there.
