LUIS ROBERT TRADED

Why does Getz keep saying over and over Acuna is a switch hitter, when he is not? Getz looking incompetent in interviews.

This is incredible. It's like 4 different instances. Also talking about "well, Ronald is good at baseball, it's in the blood" ☠️☠️☠️

Didn't like this trade to begin with, but this commentary is just weird and disappointing.

My guess is they have the scouting director assemble a list of guys they wanted, Acuña was on that list for reasons, Getz conducted the trade and got confused. I would hope they didn't game plan Acuña being part of some clever platoon plan. If LuisAngel can eclipse Robert's 84 OPS+, they can call him an Olympic Female Weightlifter, for all I care.

Sure. But if you are a general manager of a major league baseball team, and you trade your biggest asset(kinda) for someone, I would assume at the bare minimum you watch them hit at least......once? How often do you hear a player traded say "its an honor someone would want to trade for me." Now Acuna hears well the general manager didnt even bother to learn my game. Is it the biggest deal in the world? No. Is it alarming? Yeah it kinda is. Shows you he has absolutely no fear of losing his job either.

Or even a breakdown of all of these statistical analytics we have been hearing about, plugged through our new analytics department, with breakouts of performance, and expected gains from the right and left side being detailed in front of him so as to judge what Acuna will look like in a year, two years, three years, etc.  There should have been a ton of data on the players we were looking at, which was double/triple checked by everyone up and down the pipeline, complete with staff discussions up and down the lines from scouts to Getz and back again, so that all details are covered and NOT confused.  Where were the fail safes here?

Right-handed hitting is one of the two ways that switch hitters hit. So if he saw Acuña hit once, he could assume he was hitting one of the two main ways switch-hitters hit. The people invested in criticizing every single move find this latest chapter "very concerning". Those who don't care understand that people have brain farts, sometimes over the course of a week. If he kept calling him Ronald, then was surprised to find it wasn't Ronald Acuña, yes, that would be concerning. If an old woman named Luisa Angel Acuña showed up to Sox camp ready for the batting cage, that would also be concerning. Neither of those troubling mistakes happened, however.

This is a guy they discussed trading for, for over a year.  Getz comes across so terrible here.

Would it be crazy to expect a GM to look at the Split stats of a player he is acquiring?

One of the supposedly massive changes that was supposed to have just happened was all of this new information and player analytics.  It was supposed to be where we were investing money instead of the active roster.  In theory, the guy signing off on a trade would have had this information to analyze and discuss with all of the amazing new hires where they would have kicked around things like expected output from each side of the plate, as well as what the franchise sees that they could do to, let's say, "fix" Acuna into a guy that realizes his potenial, again from both sides of the plate.  This is supposedly the stuff that was fixed by firing the people who have been fired in the last couple of years.

Yet still, not once, not twice, not three times, and actually four times, the man at the top of the depth chart made a really glaring mistake, and apparently was not once challenged INTERNALLY, or by the Sox media, but was questioned enough by outside social media to where outside sports media picked this story up, before it was FINALLY addressed by Sox media and the Sox.  We still don't have a single detail about how this happened, and what affect, if any, it had on this post season and trade.  But haha, Chris Getz made a mistake and that's it.  No more questions.  Done.  Over.  Its the same old Sox, even with a different name on the door.

I would guess that's all farmed out to the stats department from scouting, and they come up with a ranked list of targets. I don't know what a GM does on a day-to-day basis, but like any high-level middle manager, they delegate. Sure, he probably opens up his own spread sheets at times.

It's a dumb mistake. It makes Getz look dumb. Just because. It doesn't change my opinion of him, and I imagine it hasn't changed yours, either.

That’s the bigger issue.  The concern is that no one on the brand new staff Getz assembled corrected him before he repeated his error three more times.  If that’s more on the Marketing team, then Boyer needs to figure it out, but the stats of a newly acquired player would seem to fall under Getz’s purview.

Again, not just the stats, but all of that in depth analytical work they should have done on him, his swing speed, his launch angles, etc, etc,, and not just from one side of the plate, but both.  It also should have contained the analytics about what they feel they could fix in his swing to get him to realize whatever ceiling they see the guy as having.  The guy signing off on this deal HAS to be involved in this stuff in excruciating detail if he is really signing off on this stuff, otherwise why is he here?  There should be no forgetting what these guys are if you are to the point you are approving trading Luis Robert for them.  You might have the underlyings doing the work of gathering the data and creating the analytics, but it is your job to have studied it and understand it in order to decide on a deal.

Ive gone from hating his hire, to being okay with it, back to questioning it. I pay more attention to meaningless emails I send than the White Sox general manager pays to major acquisitions and that is a large problem.

Putting this in the most favorable light I can think of. There may be some roster moves that he can't get involved with in the most intimate details. Maybe he really needs to pay attention to 25% of them. I didn't believe that is true, but trying to find the best light.

This would have to be one of the most important. This isn't like he's filling a AA roster move. He's moving one of the few mlb caliber players on the roster.

I can guarantee AJ Preller or "prime" Theo Epstein would never farm out info pertaining to a key trade decision or even a back field Intl. player yet to debut in MiLB to some low level underling.

With Hahn...only Haber could have been responsible.

The main Sox boards have done a better job over the years with dissecting Moncada and now Mune even Kelenic Acuna Pereira and Baldwin...let that one sink in for awhile.

For two years, after Crochet departed, Robert was the most valuable remaining trade asset and was worth $22 million (1/4 of payroll approximately) to someone in that ownership group.  The closest thing to someone with star qualities.

We're not talking the Rule 5 minor league draft selections.

"Be Better"? or "I don't care"

Pick a path lol.

Full Name: Luisangel Jose Acuña

Pronunciation: \loo-EESE-ahn-hel ah-CUHN-ya\

Instagram: @luisangelacuna

Relatives: Brother of Ronald Acuña Jr.; Cousin of Jose Campos, Alcides Escobar, Edwin Escobar, Kelvim Escobar, Maikel Garcia; Nephew of José Escobar

Everyone in baseball has known this family for at least a decade!!!!!

Bloodlines running all across the sport.

Three with Royals' connections, where Getz started his baseball career...especially RHP Kelvim and SS Alcides (who ended up at Charlotte and complained about not getting recalled).

His brother is/was a generational talent with three freaking nicknames.

Two chances for every team in baseball to sign him thanks to the Braves' front office scandal.

While the Sox were just missing out on Soto and Vladimir Jr. thanks to JR...the team was instead investing into Tatis' brother, Uribe's son and Jurickson Profar's brother or cousin.

Just not buying some of these lame excuses for Getz.

Heck Stearns probably detailed all of his drawbacks and why they weren't getting one of the Mets' better prospects or even the likes of Brett Baty.

Counterpoint: Moving Luis Robert was not a key trade. We got back a utility player out of options, and a 12th round arm. I am very optimistic about both, but it's not exactly like he was calling Kyle Teel a pitcher for a week.

Counterpoint:  Revisionism

Acuna is likely a starter on this team.

Robert would have been, too. While I like and am enthused by the return, if Acuña gets to within 20% of league average, offensively, it will be a victory. And he was the headliner. Words have set meanings.

With any other owner but Jerry, it’s probably a key trade if the Sox are willing to eat money because that would have improved the return.  Even without eating money, Acuna is probably going to be their starting CF to start the season, replacing their outgoing starting CF.

Maybe we'd prefer to go over the Cease and G.Santos trades because they were so much more "important."
