Sure seems like there is more than $5M left based on rumored Hicks trade and how Getz talked about adding another SP during pre Sox Fest interviews.

The Red Sox would have more than likely included a decent amount of cash in that trade.  I doubt the White Sox were taking on Hicks’ full contract — $12 million in 2026 and $12 million in 2027.  Otherwise, who would want him?

They were including a top prospect arm in addition. You don't get both cash and prospect capital. Sox likely would have taken on the majority of the contract.

I think this is the first time a thread is completely unanimous that this was a good signing.
Dominguez also got a overwhelmingly positive review from Sox talk as did Murakami.

It was even mixed on the Robert trade.

WTF is going on around here? I want my old soxtalk back where every move is terrible.😁

I read that the Red Sox were including a pitching prospect in the 10-15 range.  The White Sox were taking on a bad contract that Boston wants to dump and including a top 30 pitching prospect a well.

We were supposedly getting a prospect in return from taking on the money.

If I read the rumor correctly, it sounded like there was a higher rated prospect in the 10-15 range on the Red Sox side and a lesser rated prospect on the White Sox side at the back end of their top 30.

I know they need a starter but I have a hard time believing the Sox would take on a bad contract like Hicks’ for a prospect but wouldn’t eat any of Roberts’ salary to improve the return.

In any case, this Hicks trade didn’t happen.

But we have to give something.  Shouldn’t be more than an org guy. Why do we want Hicks anyway?  He has cumulative career WAR of .9 and he’s paid $12 million.  Why would we want anything to do with him?

Because we are used to bad vet signings who are on their last leg.  These are actually good mid-range signings.

This signing ranks somewhere between Josh Rojas and Mike Tauchman for me. Mullins was the guy I wanted this year on this kind of deal, not so keen on Acuña being evidently gifted the CF job. Ely "Duke Ellis with a bat" Brown can't join the MLB team soon enough.

Mullins probably would have been a better signing for just $1.5 million more, but it seems like Getz wants Acuna to get a chance at CF.

I'm intrigued, give the kid a shot, I just think we're really gonna miss Luis's glove and Mullins replaces 90% of it at a fraction of the cost. Still like that Astros dude Jake Meyers as a medium term replacement in CF. Wouldn't give up a real SP asset for him though and I think HOU stopped shopping him. Next guy I'd look at is Brenton Doyle but I think the Rockies give him at least another year. I think CF is this team's biggest weakness going forward. The prospects we might expect in the next couple years look like fine corner outfielders, the best outfield prospect who looks like a CF is 19-year-old Marcelo Alcala and I sure hope we're competitive before he debuts.

Acuna is going to be a stud defensively in center. Great speed. Great instincts despite few reps.

Only the Sox could mismanage a star so poorly that we were grateful to finally dump him on somebody else. Luis can't wait to step out on Broadway. No need to learn English since the guy is mute.

Maybe. Nothing wrong with that. Which is why I say hopefully it’s a coincidence. Because an athlete quoting Paul to denigrate gay people is quite ironic. Corinthians 9:25 and all.

Or he is just a streaky injury prone guy. It’s how the sport works sometimes.

Two years of trade rumors for a .601 RHP OPS  head case. Time to move on.
