caulfield12
We also heard how W.Gonzalez had the ability to be a starter.... Sandlin features a fastball that sits 93-96 mph but tops out at 98 mph, a slider that has been shown to miss bats, a splitter that can be a put-away pitch with some refinement, and a curveball that he doesn’t feature much. The ERA leaves quite a bit to be desired, but his fastball is enticing to watch. In July, he struck out seven straight hitters for Greenville against the Rome Emperors. He can potentially be a backend starter for the Red Sox, but he has to bring his ERA down to stick anywhere above Portland. Right now, he profiles as a reliever who could become a legitimate starting candidate.

And Romy Gonzalez wasn’t even traded to the Red Sox. He was DFA’d, which I believe Getz deserves some scorn for, but not because the Red Sox got the better of him. I agree the Booser trade sucked but also not material enough to justify such a stance.

Because every time you cut a player, you net add or lose value to your mlb roster Incrementally. It all adds up. Who did they keep over Romy? Here's a perfect example. "Chicago had designated Gonzalez for assignment last week in order to clear space for free agent signee John Brebbia." The pitching and offensive sides of the roster are different. The White Sox ostensibly chose to keep Lenyn Sosa over Romy Gonzalez. Let me know the next time Romy hits 22 HRs.

I’m not sure what you’re struggling with…I just said that Getz deserves some scorn for DFA’ing Romy in the post you quoted.

He’s our 10th ranked prospect right now per multiple publications. And it’s the type of deal that Getz and none of predecessors ever made, so not sure what you are talking about there. $17 million in salary relief and a prospect and 2 40-man slots to Boston to acquire Sandlin. He's not a top 100 guy and Boston already moved him to the pen. I don't know what the Sox plans are for him. And no $ available to send with Robert. I don't the Sox need either Newcomb or Hicks. Don't start those Hahnber habits. Edited 9 hours ago by GreenSox

Because JR won't help Cohen or the Twins (aborted Keaschall trade). Hard enough without further handicapping yourself. Seems JR wouldn't even send one penny to Cohen without a knife at his neck. imo Fenway Sports doing more damage to fans across their various teams than the Mets. How would the Twins' beat reporter name an actual top prospect in that system without solid inside information? Well I guess we helped the Twins letting Thome go...since Ozzie preferred the rotating DH/Kotsay. Then you have Ishbia abandoning Twins for Sox. Bad blood.
