With Teel out for an unknown time, should Getz demote Quero ?

Featured Replies

My guess is that Getz will not demote Quero unless and until Kyle Teel returns. However, that strategy appears to be confounded almost every game that Quero continues to under-perform at the plate. Thankfully Romo has done the opposite - he has exceeded expectations. With Reese McGuire DFAed but still down in the minors and collecting a handsome paycheck, should he be promoted to take Quero's place? I would hope not, unless both Quero and Romo go on the IL. My own opinion is that Getz should demote Quero and bring up Korey Lee, but I don't think Getz would be comfortable with that move. Getz probably is considering that as bad as Quero has been, he has still been an asset with ABS and still has a decent throwing arm. I don't like to body shame people (and I have not always been in the best shape at times), but Quero has reportedly gained several pounds in the off-season in his derriere to the point where his walk-up song could be Fat Bottomed Girls. OK, I did what I said I wouldn't do there but Quero is a professional athlete who should be held to a higher standard and expected to come to ST in top condition.

Agreed. Quero isn’t helping the team or himself right now. Let him get back his confidence in AAA. Stick with Romo as the starter and call up Lee as backup. Reassess when Teal is finally healthy.

I haven’t paid enough attention to how he looks but did Quero really gain a decent amount of weight this offseason? I think you are the second poster to say this.

Yes bulked up and worked on increasing swing speed. Has completely backfired. He should have just focused on being like Meidroth and trying to get the most out of his skillset. I still think Quero can be a decent player but he needs a reset big time right now and he's plenty young enough to where it can help.

Would have to carry 4 catchers on the 40 man and be prepared to lose Lee when Teel comes back. He passed through first time but scenery may be different now for teams elsewhere. Both would be fine with me.

What's the latest on Teel? I'm so anxious to have his energy back with this young squad. They're already fun to watch and I love the way Kyle plays, feel like he's just going to elevate the experience that much more.

Edit, maybe I should just scroll down a few topics to the "latest on Teel" thread.

It would probably be best for Edgar to start getting consistent reps against lesser competition. For the White Sox, I don't know that it makes sense to send him down before Teel returns. Just give him a backup's share of the playing time.

They’d have to make a 40-man move to add someone now. I do think, when Teel comes back, he should go to Charlotte.

Seems like the "fixing" projects this winter haven't gone well. Quero looks like a mess.

I wonder if he just needs reps against easier competition. If he’s trying out some new stuff and isn’t completely comfortable with it yet, it’s going to be hard to succeed against mlb pitching and might just result in bad habits being developed.

Also correction to first post: McGuire is a free agent, not at Triple-A.
