Alek Thomas

Worth a shot?

Can't be worse than current OF situation. Local product and ties to organization too

Sure....he has a very low BABIP and his wOBA is well beneath xwOBA so there may some positive regression coming and defensive stats on both FG and also Savant are good. OAA is 85th percentile and sprint speed 68th percentile.

I don't know...I think he's a slightly better Tristan Peters. He's never really hit. Peters actually grades out a bit better with the glove.

Dude can’t hit at all, but he did just turn 26. Would be funny to watch him and Acuna in the lineup swinging wet newspapers together.

“Diamondbacks designated OF Alek Thomas for assignment.

It’s understandable that the D-backs were frustrated with Thomas, but they might regret jettisoning him instead of Jorge Barrosa to make room for Ryan Waldschmidt. Thomas was hitting .181/.222/.340 as Arizona’s center fielder against right-handers, but Statcast thinks he was pretty unlucky in the process. He had a lower strikeout rate (23 percent) and a higher hard-hit rate (43 percent) in the majors than Waldschmidt did in Triple-A. With a $1.962 million salary and two years of control after this one, Thomas should draw interest as a trade candidate.”

That is pretty surprising and I wouldn’t think it would be true.

.643 career OPS with over 1400 PAs. And since we constantly hear this complaint, he's 5-9.

To what end?

And his father was basically fired by the White Sox...chances of a reunion with JR calling the shots are somewhere between slim and none.

Spare Parts: Former trainer files lawsuit against White S...

As the White Sox have drifted further away from Herm Schneider’s glory days and toward/past the league median of days lost to the injured list, they’ve made shake-ups to their training staff. This pas

And filed a lawsuit against the team.

Not to mention they skipped drafting Alek as well.

I'm partial to the Chicago boys. And Alek was a better prospect and player in the minors than Peters. Bring him home Getz!

... in all seriousness he isn't what people thought he would be. So likely a no.

Damn, how did this guy end up sucking so hard with the bat in the majors? His MILB numbers were sick…

The lawsuit was from Ball not Thomas, no?

Don’t need that energy. He was a high school bully.

He sucks. I'd cut Beni for him but zero chance Sox do that.

What about Acuna for him. Ant can play SS whenever Colson needs a rest

CF with minimum 50 PA as CF, Peters ranks 8th in fWAR, Thomas is 23rd.

Major League Leaderboards - 2026 - Batting | FanGraphs Baseball

Defensively, Peters is 4th, Thomas is 8th.

Oh yea dude was a stud. I saw him when he was at Reno a few years ago. He was damn good. Some guys take a while to figure it out. Others never do.

No long-term upside with Thomas given his contract situation. I'd be surprised if Getz went after a player with such a significant tendency to chase pitches outside the zone without many strengths to offset it.

This past winter, the White Sox fired longtime strength and conditioning coach Allen Thomas. The year before, they had fired head athletic trainer Brian Ball, who had been a longtime assistant for Schneider before assuming the lead role for 2019 and 2020.

Ball was the one who went against Hahn et al for sexual harassment/duscrimination/workplace conditions.

Lol. I know some kid that played on that baseball team and apparently Alek was the kinda guy to do stuff exactly like that.
