Bannister has been really disappointing. I feel like he came with a lot of hype as well.

And/or Shirley. I'm a litter easier on Bannister because he inherited a big hole. Building takes time, especially from the abyss.

I thought they might have been able to make a reliever out of Cannon. And still interested in why they decided Taylor is just a reliever.

It's well documented from multiple outlets. Bannister thought Taylor couldn't accumulate starting pitching innings quickly enough due to his injury history etc. Instead of pitching in a relief role in the minors; he's doing it in the big leagues. The expectation is that he'll come to 2027 spring training as a starter. The team has reservations about his health as a starter due to extension, pitchers with similar profiles etc but I believe that Taylor and his representatives will push for a chance to start.

I don't have the stats, but it seems like Taylor loses effectiveness after his first inning.

Also doesn’t pitch well when his stuff is flat. All the signs to me of someone that will stay as a reliever

He's had 9 games with 2 IP, for a cool 1.00 ERA and didn't allow an ER in 8 of them. But he's had several outings between 1 and 2 innings, for ERA of 4.63. He started 4 games in April and allowed 1 hit and 0 ER.

To me, when he's on, he looks unhittable; but he's not always on. I hope they try him as a starter; but yall may be right.

Really need three pitches as a starter unless you're 2005/06 Jose Contreras or 1985 Dwight Gooden.

Assuming that you don't have one dominant unhittable pitch...

Taylor has a 4 seam, a 2 seam, curve, slider, cutter, and change.

Sure, but he really utilizes just two pitches as a high leverage reliever.

Neither of those two secondary pitches has been good enough...at least the games I have personally watched.

77% four seam fb and curve

Slider

(15.0%)

Sinker

(7.4%)

Did he though? This team has churned out plenty of high end arm talent.

Yeah, this is the biggest issue with moving these guys to the pen. The innings play a role, but it's the fact that they basically become two pitch pitchers out of the pen so they spend years not working on their whole repertoire in the game.

I presume you mean "He" as in Bannister. It's hard to tell the talent he inherited. Crochet needs to be credited to Bannister. Hahnber wouldn't let him leave the pen and kept rushing him. Shultz wasn't a universally beloved pick; Taylor was an injured pitcher who played 1 year in college; he could throw hard. No one has been able to do anything with Palette or Kelley, but Shirley used nearly all of rounds 2-5 to get Kelley. It's hard for me to discern how much real talent there was.

I just mean this organization had no issues developing and churning out pitching for the last two+ decades. One of the best orgs in the business at doing that. They couldn't develop players to save their life, but pitching was a different story.

So what you’re saying is that Don Cooper needs to come back.
