Why is there so much variance in the Fauske rankings?

Can Thome really be higher than Hagen Smith, who's still #53 on the current/just updated Pipeline list?

Why is Gabe Davis still so high?

Months ago, there was a theory Cholowsky alone would push the overall system back into the Top 10...

Is that still the case after this draft, that they have jumped all the way from low 20s back into the #8-12 area?

I think Roch is a superior overall prospect to Bonemer strictly due to defensive floor even if Caleb has a higher offensive ceiling.

I’m a big Fauske fan and he’s really turned a corner over the past month or so, putting up a 127 wRC+ over his last 135 PAs with a 13.4% BB rate, 19.4% K rate, .158 ISO, & 16 SBs (vs. 1 CS). This is the growth you want to see out of a 1st year prep sent straight to full season ball.

I’m still on the Hagen Smith bandwagon, but even the biggest optimist must penalize him some for still struggling to provide innings. I’ve said elsewhere I think his floor is a high-end bullpen weapon, which is valuable but not enough to rank him over a HS kid with plus hit & power tools. If he can provide more confidence in his ability to start, he’d probably jump past Thome for me.

Gabe Davis is a big kid with big stuff who was brought on a project who has made considerable progress this year. Him stalling out some at AA is to be expected for someone in their first year making from relieving to starting and doesn’t derail my thoughts on the kid. He’s also coming two strong starts and could be turning the corner. I remain a huge fan of this kid.

Regarding the pitching we drafted, I’m not sure any of these guys will make High A by the end of the season and certainly not AA. Not sure why you think they’re going to rush them to fill major league bullpen needs that don’t really exist at the moment. And theoretically, they have LaCombe & George in AA if they really need a premium stuff guy to throw into the pen this year.

Volchko, Segura, & Scolari will all start off in the ACL. From there, it really comes down to innings limits. I could see some of them going to Low A once the ACL season ends, but these guys will likely be relieving or doing much very short starts. I expect all three of them to be developed as SPs next year in either Kannpolis’ or Winston Salem’s rotation to start the year.

70 and 57 innings the last two years for Scolari seems light but they have to start building a floor/foundation somewhere.

Thanks for the update. I like how aggressive you were ranking Prosek. I still have Bonemer over Cholowsky, mostly cuz I'm a Stan, but also guy's a year younger doing in in AA. I remain openminded. I'm also something of a Fauske Stan, so I have him slightly above Carlson, Thome, and Prosek. Upon further review, I bumped Burrowes up into the Top 20. He's been pretty good all year and is still only 21. A lot of who deserves to be where won't be clear until like next May, so it's a lot of guesswork until then.

For me, Carlson’s rank reflects his draft day value as we just haven’t seen enough to pivot from it IMO. I know some have been disappointed with his bat so far, but I expected a fairly steep development curve for him going straight to full season ball. Not hitting a HR in 40 games is a bit concerning, but it’s not like he lacks raw power and the swing was always going to require work. I need to see how he does in the second half before I consider dropping him.

Makes sense to me. I like Fauske a ton. Not a reflection on Carlson, who I believe will develop some pop to go along with the glove. I just like Fauske’s tools a tad better.

Mogollon at #10 seems way off.

Will have lots of different takes in terms of the respective values of Hagen Fauske Prosek Thome and Carlson.

Fauske can play CF?

While Fauske has some experience behind the plate and some scouts thought he might be the best catching prospect in the 2025 Draft, he doesn't want to play there, and the White Sox plan on developing him as a full-time outfielder. They'd rather maximize his bat and athleticism, and they think he has solid speed and instincts to possibly stick in center field. They've also put him on a throwing program to help boost his average arm strength.

Bonemer over Roch 100 out of 100 times. Defensive edge probably makes roch safer, but I'll take the guy who is younger and pulling a wRC+ of 134 in pro ball across A+ and AA over the older guy with a 146 wRC+ in college every single time.
