Could the Sox have 2 DSL teams like most of the other orgs, and they just choose not to? Everyone's under a cap, so the number of players should be relatively equal - Or do the other orgs just sign a whole slew of $10K, players

Carlson rehabbing. 1-2 double

I think people are sleeping on Carlson. His defensive upside is elite and he’s got a ton of other explosive tools. He’s got to continue to put strength on / you forget how young he is / preps are but I think it would be a massive mistake to trade him now…maybe in future but his value will be much higher in future in my mind.

70 grade fielding AND arm. I love the idea of having a guy like that at SS.

Especially in a year where we are way ahead of schedule AND a likely lockout next year. I'd hate to burn a young prospect where we are right now and with an uncertain 2027 season.

Tangent: I am honestly surprised at how many HS kids pulled out of the draft with what is coming for the draft potentially in 2027. I know they might not have gotten what they wanted, but they could be looking at a much worse situation in 2 to 3 years when they are up again.

Seattle used 19 of its 20 picks on college players. The lone high school selection, 18th-round outfielder Dominic Santarelli, isn't expected to sign and will fulfill his commitment to LSU. Another late-round pick, Texas Tech third baseman Connor Shouse, is also expected to return to school.

It's not an accidental trend. It's a look at how NIL is actively affecting the MLB Draft. For years, teams could use late-round picks on talented high school players with strong college commitments and see whether they had enough bonus money to change their minds. It was a reasonable lottery ticket. Save money elsewhere, make an aggressive offer and hope the opportunity to begin a professional career was more appealing than spending three years on campus.

Tigers go light on high-schoolers in MLB Draft. Is it because of NIL?

Will Adams, a first baseman and corner outfielder out of high school in Alabama, was projected to go as high as the second round. He fell to the Tigers in the 11th round.

My impression was this might be one of the last times you can really go the high school route anyway and that was part of why the Sox made the deal they did - this kind of allows them to dip into that pool now when reality is they were one of the few teams with capacity to do so and then we'll all be in this new potentially shallower pool in the future...but at least we should see a wave in a few years where we may have a bit more concentration (college players from upcoming drafts establishing themselves while we also have hopefully some wins from our base of high school(ers) as well.

All of it depends on the ability to hit and develop those picks obviously.

2027 draft is safe. It's the same rules as previous ones. 2028 is the first one that could be changed.

Sure, but they won't be in the draft again until after that point. For almost all of them, their next bite at the apple is after their Junior year.

I don't see any way that the MLBPA actually agrees to no high school draft picks. I think it's kind of a nonstory. No way that happens.

They are also looking for fixed slots, less rounds, and everything else.

The draft stuff from the owners is so ridiculous I kind of assume it’s just so they can “cave” on those ideas in exchange for the MLBPA conceding on other talking points as some kind of make-believe compromise.

Or the players cave on those issues since they aren't MLBPA yet.

I really hate this proposed rule. It was dumb when the NBA did it, and it will be dumb if the MLB does it.

I would think if the new CBA would have much effect on decision to go to school or not, it would push you towards school because you are otherwise worried about losing your age 19 year of development (and paychecks, etc.) to a lockout.
