Imagine if we kept and played Hays and Gonzalez, this team would not be in first place.Hays would replace Doyle.

And Hays can't play center field, Doyle was brought in specifically to platoon center field. His metrics suggest he shouldn't play anywhere in the outfield. Doyle is also much younger and has several years of control. It was either Hays or Grichuk. Edited 2 hours ago2 hr by nrockway

Hays has nothing to do with Doyle, in that Hays is not an elite defensive CF. Doyle is. Hays is also regularly injured. I hope Mason Adams pitches his way into the HOF. The Rockies gave away Doyle for nothing.

The Sox already had a CF that could hit better than Doyle even when he was slumping. Acuna also backed up CF. Doyle has a good glove but swings a wet rolled up newspaper these days.

I'm sure he'll keep putting that many guys on base a game and not suffer from it.And no, Getz doesn't always make the right decisions, but he doesn't always make the wrong ones either. You really want to believe that Getz is so incompetent he'd trade a quality starting pitching prospect for garbage. It's way more likely Adams either is nothing special, or it took more than you assume to get Doyle because Colorado and other teams besides the Sox valued him. Edited 1 hour ago1 hr by almagest

It doesn't matter if they had someone who could stand out in CF for a game. It looks like they wanted to get an elite defensive backup. They didn't have that. Pereira nor Hays were that. And if you're referring to Pereira, he's played 37 of about 120 games. He wasn't an option.

Weird how 4.0 IP makes Mason Adams a viable playoff starter, but nobody gets to reference an entire season of stats from 2 years ago to argue that a pitcher has had major league success. Castillo and Urquidy also did well in one of their White Sox starts. A move works out or not over the long haul, not in one game.

He’s a project just like what you labeled Castillo as. But Adams was already in the organization and didn’t need to be traded for. Meanwhile, Doyle is probably a non-tender in the offseason.

Except I'll bet on the guy who was a solid starter as recently as last year to find something over the guy who's probably a decent middle reliever at best, and I didn't even like the Castillo deal.

Yeah he was hurt but Teel’s been hurt the just about the whole year. Hays has a pretty good track record and we throw 6 million out the window and DFA him. None of this makes sense. The 6 million was thrown out the window when he didn’t play most of the season, not a September DFA
