I just think you have enough positional versatility that you can keep Mune, Chase, Colson, Vargas, Roch, Caleb and Antman and play matchups and give guys days off without rostering a Beni full time DH type. Bonemer and Cholowsky on the horizon as RH sources of talent. If JR is still around and the resolved CBA didn't help much, which it likely won't being a big market team then it's act like the Rays until Ishbia is owner. Then you can operate differently hopefully. Still have to keep restocking the farm and you already have seen what a massive influx of young talent can do . Mune may be out the door too. So much changes from year to year especially if you find out your talent wants to test the FA waters. Better to trade them and restock the farm especially when it could be years before we see any talent graduate from Latin America. That's a huge part of our talent pipeline that could not be fixed in a short period of time nor is the financial situation ideal when JR is still owner.

We have like $70M committed for five guys (Castillo, Murakami, Benitendi, Hicks, & Kay) plus three arb guys in Vargas, Doyle, & Brazoban. Everyone else is pre-arb for at least one more season. Not a ton of needs either. Adding a high-end SP is a must. A leverage reliever would be nice, especially if Newcomb departs. Other than that, you’re mostly looking at bench pieces and maybe a swing man…which are low cost things. This offseason is the time to spend big on a SP. And if they can’t turn Schultz or one of the other young arms into a quality starter, they will likely have to trade for one at some point too. That’s where the positional depth comes into play.So we'll have Castillo, Burke, Kay and Martin for next year. Add one FA (Trevor Rogers? Should be reasonable price; very good, except for a ghastly 2024). And you're right, out of Schultz, Sandlin, Vasil, hopefully Taylor and other candidates, they can find one starter; although 2 or 3 would be better to have some depth. And they'll lose Castillo and Kay for 2028, so they will need some guys to step in.

You may prefer to trade player A but if the haul is appreciably better for player B, you make that trade. The process is followed regardless of the player names involved. It's a lot like any other forms of investing. Don't get too attached to the equity. It's just part of the inventory.Totally a laundry guy myself. But anyway , that’s what a GM has to be.

Nothing needs to happen until Roch and/or Caleb force one of the current guys out of the lineup and cheap controllable depth is a good thing. I also need to see Roch at a big league level play as good or better a SS as Colson does before I'm moving Colson's elite glove from SS.

That will be determined in the thinking. I know Colson is not there yet, but neither Colson Vargas wouldn’t have much leverage in this situation to talk about contracts any time soon (or even later). Unless Cholowski and Bonemer crater. And Vargas’value might be pretty high on the trade market going forward. Would this winter be too soon to trade Vargas, yeah I agree, probably. Hopefully he retained his value through the trade deadline when we know more. Edited 1 hour ago1 hr by Chick Mercedes

I'm saying don't have a DH only player on the roster so you can use it to get more RH or LH bats in the lineup, rotate off days from all the IF to keep guys fresh, etc.

Roch should be starting every day at short and Bonemer should be starting wherever they think he is most likely to excel - may that be at third or in left.If he doesn’t have the chops to cut it in the field then and only then would I be ok with them allowing him to be our DH.
