9/8 6:40 CDT Sox Host Pirates, arrg!

I'm not sure how Venable has given Mune 0 days off this whole time. Give him a day or 2 to work on some things in the cage. Get his mind right. You can't keep throwing him out there for him to strike out 3-4 times a game. It's not good for him and it's not good for the team.

  • At this point he needs to wear it. They had a day off yesterday and you can't ruin the pen already.

  • Whose gonna start the thread “Are the pirates cheating??”

You don't have a 100 point drop in OPS in August and September if you're not broken.

Could you imagine the freak out if they had given him a 5/150 extension?

The Sox are now 16-17 since the trade deadline.

There’s just no urgency

Sox are batting .227 in the second half, tied for 27th. Top 5 in strikeouts as well. Top 10 in homers.

This is a .500 team that went on a good streak in May. Let's just hope they can continue to be .500 the rest of the way and not completely collapse.

Would really leave a sour taste given how much progress they seemed to be making in forming a core.

Not much you can say is there?

Mune and Colson becoming the worst version of themselves in the 2nd half has really dampened the outlook for the core.

Wake me up when September ends

Those two are hitting .210 and .212.

That simply won't cut it.

And to look this way as a team after an off day, yikes.

Moving him from #2 to #3 in the lineup?

If you are gonna keep playing him every day, move him down to at least #7 for crying out loud until he gets himself right.

I mean .500 from where they were is progress. If you take out the disastrous start which is clearly an outlier, they are 69-56. Equals 89 wins over the course of the 162. Probably closer to 86 wins.

No question progress has been made but you'd hope they could finish the job. I get it though these guys have looked spent more and more as the season has gone on.

Yeah absolutely there’s been progress, but a few months ago, we were dreaming of an absolutely loaded roster in a few years anchored by Colson and Mune.

This is probably the easiest they will have it for making the playoffs. 84 wins probably wins the division. The AL Central is usually bad, but I don't ever remember 84 wins being enough to take it.

Agreed. It's really gonna suck if they lose the division/2-seed because their best chance of making the ALCS is by earning that, but that is likely their absolute ceiling as any of Boston, TB, or NY would give them trouble in the ALCS. Hell, playing the Astros in the ALDS might actually be their ceiling, now that I think of it.

At the end of the day we know what they are this year which is exactly what their record is. .500 in almost every month. This is not a championship team. If it makes anyone feel better, neither is Cleveland.

Need another resilient win tomorrow

Been saying that all season.

It's not, but we don't exactly make the playoffs or win the division a whole lot. Hell, I think we've only made the playoffs 5 times since 2000. To do that, especially after the last 3 years, is a major boost to the franchise.

These guys are still young. They will Mature and get better. I don't think we have to worry about a repeat of the last go around. Talent was never the issue with those guys. It was effort and heart. We know these guys will run through a wall for each other. The previous go around did not have that.

No season is the same and the future is never a given.....it would absolutely suck to miss the playoffs after being in 1st place for so long.

Pretty good chance we come out of this with at least the last wild card. I mean knock on wood but the collapse needed to fall completely out would be pretty epic and sad.

Just hoping, fingers crossed, this doesn't turn into 1967, 2003 or 2012.
