The gatekeeper thing was always the weirdest thing about being a Sox fan. First off Sox fans are extremely bandwagon. When they are bad, everyone disappears. When times are good, everyone shows back up. Look at attendance numbers and TV ratings.

It’s almost as if some Sox fans want us to perpetually be a small fanbase, low attendance, small revenue stream franchise. If you’re not from the South Side (specifically south of Cermak) or S/SW suburbs, if you haven’t been a lifelong fan, you’re lesser of a fan.

By this insular logic, we’d have the smallest market size by far in MLB.

And we sit absolutely last in MLB in revenue.

“We’re always overlooked, under-appreciated, and disrespected!”

*The Sox attract more attention and more casual fans*

“f*** off you fairweather fans, this is MY team!”

We were last in 2024, which makes sense. But we're probably closer to 20 than 30 this year.

You would think so, but that would mean an extra $100 million-ish in revenue, and they sure haven't acted like.

I am not talking about giving up 2005, but talking about the last 20 years.

I wasn't responding to your post though. And don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating to sucking most of the time haha. I just said that I prefer 1 title to a whole bunch of division titles and nothing to show for it.

Right on. I hope most fans feel this way instead of being all gatekeepery.

There’s plenty of room on the bandwagon. Come have fun with us.

Yep, you see a ton of folks with Sox caps all over the place here in Texas, a lot of them are in fact former Chicagoans like me... hopefully, especially with the younger ones, they not only like the Sox hat, but also the team.
