No disresect to Frank but Maggs would look damn good in the #3 spot. Could Ozzie keep Franky happy after a switch? I doubt it.

Honestly if I had my druthers I would hit Carlos in the #3 spot, Maggs #4, and Frank #5. If Frank isn't going to worry about average he is a protypical 5 hitter. If he goes back to 90's mentality, then he is an excellent #3 hitter. I guess we have to wait and see what Frank is in camp IMO.

Has Frank ever hit very well outside of the 3 hole? I always remember him not doing so well in the #4 position when he was put there. This may just be a cause of bad memory as I don't have any statistics to back up my memory of it.

Why yes, yes I am. What is your point?

Frank is an ideal 3 spot hitter, because the 3 spot requires a person who has power and also takes walks.

Just reminding the masses.

But for the record..

You know that your suggestion would never work.. :P

Sure in REALITY it wouldn't work... But in fantasy land where players do what is best for the team, and don't complain about it, there it would work.

Why move Hurt? Let him hit 3rd, and leave him the hell alone!!!

If you put him 5th, behind Lee and Maggs, who's gonna protect Frank? He'd be pitched around all the time!

It is tough to compare stats because we do not know how well they would do if for example, Frank didn't have Maggs hitting behind him.

Average: Maggs .317, Lee .291, Frank .267

OBP: Frank .390, Maggs .380, Lee .331

Walks: Frank 100, Maggs 57, Lee 37

Strike outs: Maggs 73, Lee 91, Frank 115

Steals: Lee 18, Maggs 9, Frank 0

If Frank was in the #5 spot, he would probably draw as many walks because of his excellent eye. If they did try and pitch around him because Kong would be next, they still would have to throw strikes.

I'm not certain about putting Lee in that spot. I would prefer Maggs. A little more speed, less strike outs, about the same OBP, fewer walks (bad) and better average.

I'm hoping that Konerko has a comeback season, but, in the meantime, isn't it better to bat with Magglio behind you than Paulie?

Frank.

He's still productive and he's earned the spot.

Maggs seems comfortable at cleanup and CLee is versatile enough to spot at 2 or 5 depending on the needs of the team.

It seems that Frank needs to feel that he's the #3 guy, and I have no problem with 42 bombs and 105 RBI from my #3 hitter, regardless of BA ( unless that BA gets TOO low, like .230, of course ).

Everyone should be evaluated on present ability and production. Screw that s*** about it's his as long as he is in a sox uniform. You have to earn and keep your spot. If he became a liability would some you people still keep him in the 3 hole just because he is Frank?? With all that said...I say he starts off season there...buit if he aint producing he gets moved...

what did Frank Thomas do last year to not warrant batting 3rd? Heck he puts up the same numbers as last year, I would be happy.

What is the debate? Lee is very good in the second spot, Mags is very good in the cleanup spot, Kong is good in the fifth spot. Why would we move everything around?

Why tinker with the lineup that produced a solid second place finish? YEAH WERE #2 We would all be happy if Frank puts up the same numbers and we finsh 2nd again.

Keep it the way it is right now. Thomas is still putting up worthy enough numbers to warrant staying in the 3 spot.

I've said several times that I feel that the best lineup the White Sox could put out would have Lee batting 2nd, but more importantly, Maggs batting 3rd and Thomas cleanup. Where Lee bats is really irrelevant...he could bat 2nd, 5th, 6th, or 7th, and in either of those 4 spots, he'd be productive...however, I want Maggs batting 3rd because he has had a higher average then Frank has and drives in more runs then Frank. He has a little speed to steal some bases and stretch a double into a triple now and then, along with power. He can be a .320 35 130 guy, and I want a .320 35 130 guy batting 3rd for me. Thomas has publicly said that he is going for homers, and if he truly does, I want the biggest homer threat we have to hit cleanup. If everything goes right this year, he will hit 45 or so homers, and I would rather have those 45 homers coming after Maggs bats then before, thus not limiting Maggs RBI chances.

Either way will probably work, I would just prefer Maggs batting 3rd and Thomas cleanup, however, if that will not work for personal reasons( ), then Thomas should bat 3rd and Maggs cleanup.

Exactly. It makes perfect sense. And it really is no disrespect to Frank. It is remarkable how well he has stayed conditioned. But Maggs is a younger, faster man. And hopefully Kong rebounds enough to keep the pitchers honest with Frank up to bat.

I'm one of the few as of late that think Frank should be on the Sox his entire career. That being said, Ifhe helps out the team's lineup by moviing to the 5 spot, then I'd go for that. But with Lee being so good in the 2 hole, IMO, I really would want to keep him there. Then I'd be happy with Maggs batting 3rd, but I'm not so sure about Frank being 4th. So then who would we put there? Konekro? He's in the same boat. Id much rather have a higher average guy at cleanup.

I think its a stretch, but If Uribe plays really well, Id say play him 2nd in the lineup at short. Then Maggs 3rd, Lee 4th, Thomas 5th (and playing 1st base, where I think he should start). Then at 6th, let Konerko and Jose battle it out for DH. I'd think Konerko could probably win the job and use jose as a utility guy until the trade deadline.

Its a stretch, I know, esp. with Thomas at 1st, but Jose hasnt shown me anything on the field or behind the plate.

Frank all the way, he's played here his whole career, he deserves it.
