April 30, 200421 yr I understand that Hawk is VERY happy that Manuel is gone, and I am too, but he really is running the risk of overdoing the whole "Miracle Worker" thing with Oz. Right now, he's basically comparing him to Lou Piniella and Tony LaRussa, which is completely unfair given that Oz hasn't even managed one full month in the bigs yet. I KNOW he's comparing approaches and not results, but he comes off sounding like he's canonizing Ozzie and I just think it's a little too early for it right now. As much as I like what Oz has done so far, I'm already tired of Hawk's ass-licking.
April 30, 200421 yr These are the nights that Hawk annoys the s*** out of me. He is such a shill it gets maddening. Yes, we know, every single player and coach the Sox have now, are better than what we used to have...
April 30, 200421 yr I like Hawk but If we would of told him anything negative about JM last year he would of been saying you do not know what the hell you are talking about Hawk loves to ride the fence.
April 30, 200421 yr I really felt Hawk hated JM. He's really glad to see him gone; you could just tell by some of the things he was saying in interviews etc. last season that Hawk was done w/ the Manuel era.
April 30, 200421 yr As long as the Sox's keep winning Hawk can lick his ass all year long for all i care...

I haven't heard Hawk much this year yet so I appreciate the review Yeah, hawk does overdo I picked up what gw121 said, that last year hawk was not happy with JM
April 30, 200421 yr I haven't heard Hawk much this year yet so I appreciate the review Yeah, hawk does overdo I picked up what gw121 said, that last year hawk was not happy with JM Thats my flaw with Hawk. I realize he needs to stay true to the team and he can't necessarily make too many harsh statements cause it will piss of the players, but at the same time, I'd like to see some unbiased commentary. If he didn't like JM, then he should of said it in the broadcasts (last year) and stuff like that. I doubt it will ever happen cause as an announcer he has little margin of error, but still, I'd like to see hawk get into these guys (if he feels they deserve it) instead of waiting until they are gone to do it.

April 30, 200421 yr That game when Crede's HR in Baltimore got called foul and JM asked the 3B ump what he had for dinner...let's just say Hawk was a bit peeved.
April 30, 200421 yr That game when Crede's HR in Baltimore got called foul and JM asked the 3B ump what he had for dinner...let's just say Hawk was a bit peeved. Ya, I was pissed too. That was bs, that really hurt the Sox. I like it when Hawk shows a little attitude.

Hawk drops plenty of subtle hints, though.
April 30, 200421 yr I think Hawk is trying to build some excitement for this team and Ozzie is the main selling point so far. Rather, Ozzie's influence on how the team is approaching these games seems to be. If, by doing this, he helps spin those turnstyles, then by all means, "Keep it up, Hawk!"
April 30, 200421 yr Author I think Hawk is trying to build some excitement for this team and Ozzie is the main selling point so far. Rather, Ozzie's influence on how the team is approaching these games seems to be. If, by doing this, he helps spin those turnstyles, then by all means, "Keep it up, Hawk!" I would agree with this if not for the fact that he's praising Ozzie on the Sox broadcasts ( which is basically preaching to the choir ) and almost all the press Hawk gets in the non-Sox media is revolving around his spat with Mariotti. Hawk needs to take off his "Local Yokel Media Police" badge and promote what's going on with the South Side baseball club....which is some pretty damn good stuff right now....
April 30, 200421 yr Hawk drops plenty of subtle hints, though. I thought it was painfully obvious last year that Hawk did not like JM's managing style
April 30, 200421 yr I thought it was painfully obvious last year that Hawk did not like JM's managing style I almost hate to say this but, what style?
April 30, 200421 yr I know Hawk dwells on it a lot, but I know how he feels! It was sad how dead the team use to look the last few years, it is really exciting to watch the games now, and I give the vast majority of that credit to Oz. I do give some credit to KW though, he brought Uribe in, he knew Shoey should get a shot at starter... I'm just waiting for a move on Wright (and after Cotts last few appearances and Diaz's numbers in AAA it's about time something happens).
April 30, 200421 yr We would have lost the last two games and our bullpen would be completly fried last year. This team has a way of turning it on during the game as oppossed to last year when they would wilt like a flower and not be seen for nine innings (i.e. lose to Det twice and San Diego 1-0.) When Ozzie ran, not to waste time, to the mound in the ninth and Koch did the job, that was good to see. He didn't hold up the game or anything. Ran out said this is the guy to get now go get him, BINGO, game over.
April 30, 200421 yr Before we annoint Ozzie as the next Casey Stengel, remember that the Sox had the exact same won-loss record last year at this time (under Manuel).
April 30, 200421 yr Before we annoint Ozzie as the next Casey Stengel, remember that the Sox had the exact same won-loss record last year at this time (under Manuel). This may be semantics, but the wins this year, to me, show that Ozzie is at least getting the guys to keep the 'we're going to win' attitude even if down by a few runs. Last year, if they were losing after say the 3rd or 4th inning, you could almost guarantee a loss.
April 30, 200421 yr One thing that does kind of concern me though is, its great the Sox get out of the gate pretty well in the first inning and score runs but it always seems when the Sox do score first they normally lose that lead and have to come up with late inning heroics and eventually that stuff begins to turn into losses. The Sox starters have to work harder at keeping the lead in early innings. I believe the pen has done a very good job of late of doing so in the later innings.
April 30, 200421 yr I think that the main problems with the Sox are: 1) Everyone seems to be "swinging for the fences". Whatever happenned to "small ball"? 2) Our starters have been "shaky" at best. Even Loiaza at 4-0. The aren't holding leads, and are walking too many hitters.

May 1, 200421 yr even if we have the same record as last year we also had a better ball club supposedly last year 2..... so that tells you how ozzie is working with what he has and we also didnt face the yankees twice at this point last year... even though we did own them last year
