Cerbaho-WG
I swear to God, I'm sick and f***ing tired of hearing Hawk slam stats and Sabermetrics any chance he gets. Hey Hawk, why don't you tell Beane, DePodesta, Epstein, and Ricciardi your formula for success as a GM since you were so successful as one? Sit down. witesoxfan
I personally love listening to Hawk and his knowledge is fantastic And his knowledge of sabermetrics is very weak. He knows very little about them. Because he does not like the system, he slams it. That is wrong. Several teams have been built using the concept of sabermetrics(Oakland, Toronto, Boston, and now LA is being built that way too), and it has been done successfully. The only way you can bash a way of looking at something is if it has been done numberous times and has sucked every time. Sabermetrics obviously has not. On another note...thank you Billy Beane for actually using it in the first place. Prove everyone wrong. And incredibly, there are still skeptics out there(cough Hawk cough). Unbelieveable
WSox30
so he's a little bias against one thing...let it go...you gotta love hawk for everything he does. as i said the knowledge is fantastic, along with the stories and just the way him and DJ break things down and his love for the sox all twist into a great announcer

False Alarm
i don't have a problem with hawk bashing sabermetrics. it's not as if sabermetric writers, GMs, et al don't take pot shots at the traditionalist view all the time, so why can't hawk fire back? i personally think there's merit in both approaches and that to some extent they do different things and are pointless to argue over. but it's inaccurate to say that several teams have been successfully built around sabermetrics. oakland is an undeniable success given their circumstances, but whether or not that's due to their building around sabermetrics isn't at all clear. and considering that their OBP was 10th in the AL (i believe) last year and 13th so far this year, i'm not even sure it's a given that they're successfully implementing a sabermetric philosophy at the moment. as for toronto, boston, and LA--give me a break. boston had all kinds of money and was good before epstein goth there; they're still good. toronto had finished third for four consecutive years before riccardi; last year they finished third (and are in real danger of losing ground this year). depodesta...one month, dude. epstein, riccardi, and depodesta haven't been around nearly long enough to determine the success or failure of their methods. POPPY_HIDALGO
Hawk is one of the worst anouncers in the buisness. He bashes anything and anyone who doesn't love the Sox. The only thing worse than Hawk is Rooney and Farmer over on the radio. I think the last three years Hawk has been nothing more than a sound board with the phrases: HE GONE!, Can of corn, and You know what DJ, all programmed in. Old Socks
Most people, includng me, like the Hawkisms. Even though he is a homer, he still will criticize Sox people. He got on JM 2002, saying something to the effect that he did a poor job. This time he got on Alomar for call ing for a chaange up when Cotts looked very good with his fastball, but he went on to describe the hitter's "slow swing." Before the home run. Over the years he has been on the Sox for poor defense. Hawk is one of the best (announcers).

He is a fan of this team, he is usually in the same mood as us during the game. Now if your a fan of another team, then your right, Hawk sucks as an announcer. BrandoFan
Big Hawk supporter here. Layed many a smackdown on fact-free morons from other cities who bash Hawk just because it's the thing to do. Having said that....I think it's effed up what Hawk did to Wimpy, his constant "keeping down" of DJ, who may indeed be unlistenable when he is Hawk's b****, but when he is working with other broadcasters or during interviews, he comes off infinitely better.....and of course Hawk's ridiculous obcession with Manuel. Get over it, it wasn't Manuel's fault his players layed down or choked or both. Hawkisms are great, so are Hawk's speaking cadence, his stories and baseball knowledge. He is unique, for better or worse. LMAO. But he does need to lay off the S-metrics a bit. I find it puzzluing that such a rudimentary and useful stat as 'OPS' still hasn't infiltrated the mainstream lingo.

Because, other than those on the boards, I have never talked to a White Sox fan before, and when I watch the game Hawk is like a friend watching with me. I love that he wants his team to win. To add on to this story, I have a lot of "friends" that are diehard cubs fans and one of them not only likes comiskey more than wrigley but also said to me that the only thing he cares about the white sox is hawk and dj. I also love the hawkisms and do love that he is bias because it feels like he's going through exactly what we are by watching at home. When another guy hits a homer and he says 1-0 ballgame, I'm thinking to myself "1-0 ballgame". He gets excited when we get excited and pissed when we get pissed. and i agree with brando about the great stories and knowledge and False Alarm with merits to both sides. Let Hawk be, he's not going to change for anyone because he grew up in a different era and i love the way he is.
