Wacky Trade Idea:

I like Neal Cotts but this might not be the right time to sit back and hope he blossoms rapidly.

If we're looking for a 5th starter and possible closer help, what about Byung-Hyun Kim? He's had a couple of poor outings but compared to Wright/Diaz and tonight's potential Cotts outing he's rock f'n solid. Plus, he's a surefire guy to have coming out of the pen.

He's stuck in AAA and the Red Sox don't seem to have him in any of their plans for this year.

Problem is, he's being paid a pretty decent amount, close to $5 mil I think, and because they're the Red Sox, I'm not sure there's anyone we can give them that we don't desperately need.

Kim can't go higher than 89 MPH on his fastball, no thanx.  ;)

Moyer is lucky when he hits 85. There is more to this game than velocity.

If Kim didn't have a lot of zeroes in his contract, I would want him around. As it is, he makes too much money.

Dumb Trade.

You don't give up and a young lefty that easy... ;)

Some trade ideas around here are laughable :bang :bang :headshake

If Bill Veeck was alive many here would ahve a job with him

I don't think he was implying dealing Cotts. He was rather saying he wants Cotts in the bullpen for the year and then move him into the rotation.

I'm assuming the Sox wouldn't be giving up much anything for Kim, considering he doesn't have any trade value and he has a big time contract.

I'd do it just to get him in our bullpen. He'd be a nice righty along with Shingo, Jackson, and Adkins. I no longer consider Politte very good (once he starts using his change and slider he'll be more effective) and Koch is the closer.

I'd do it if:

a.) we don't give up that much for him.

b.) they eat most, if not all of that contract.

It's dumb to trade an unproven 24 year old lefty for a proven 25 year old righty?

I personally don't think it would take Cotts to get Kim. Even if Kim was just a reliever for us, that would be nice. He and Shingo could be some pretty tough righties out of the pen, tough to pick up their throwing motions, etc.

The Red Sox dont need Cotts. They have plenty of young major league ready lefties, i.e Lenny Dinardo, Mark Malaska etc.

Read carefully, I never said deal Cotts. Cotts has a bright future in front of him. But that future might not come this season. Which is why we obviously have to start looking around for help.

Kim was a top closer just 2 years ago, and last year sported an ERA of 3.13... or something. He's a quality and versatile arm. God forbid one of our pitchers goes down, he can be inserted anyplace.

Just thinking of guys who don't fit in on their teams and would be available this early, y'know? Who we give up for him and whether it's worth the $$$ is a whole other issue.
