Who cares? Like SS2K said, we don't need him swinging for the fences. He's on the team for his speed and defense, not because we needed more HRs.

i dont think we have a problem with the lack or power production on this team

I agree we do not need him to hit for the fences....but it sure would be fun to see him round the bases

No he doesn't. He's a leadoff man that means his job is simply to get on base no matter how he does it. HR's and RBI from his spot in the lineup are a bonus.

I'm sure he'll hit an inside the park job. Other than that, maybe a couple but that's about it.

You know what. Homeruns look nice on ESPN and they do win ballgames but its the walks and base knocks that set up the big innings. That's what you need from your lead off man.

This thread reminds me of when Willie Mays Hayes tries to hit for power in Major League. To deter him from swinging for the fences the managers makes him do push-ups every time he hits a fly ball.

It is fun when a guy like Harris nails one into the third row. I agree, he doesn't need to, but sometime he will connect exactly right and sail one out.

If Big Willie Style can hit 3 HR's this year I don't much care if he EVER hits a HR.

a lot of you missed the point of this thread it seems like it to me.... the person who started this topic wasnt implying that willie needs to start hitting HR's but when will he so all the posts about he doesnt need to hit HR's are completely useless... and btw i say he will have 3 for the season maybe 4

Having said that, I really don't care if he hits one or not. He's not on the team for his power. The Sox already have seven players who may end up with more than twenty home runs this season. That's more than enough.
