Site Back Up For Now

Featured Replies

Just want to say I called the server company and had the site turned back on. Unfortunately I have finals and stuff so I'm not even looking at the computer right now. Once those finals are done I'm going to be working on moving the site to a dediated server.

This move should happen quickly, but their will be some downtime in the move, but right now its the only option because the site is getting so big.

I apologize for the outage and liek I said their will be one more outage when the site switches to a semi-dedicated server. However, this server swithc will enable the site to further grow and should put an end to any type of server issues or glitches.

This is just a part of being a constantly growing site and I and Kapkomet (whose gonna be a huge help in all this) are going to do what it takes to ensure the site is online 99.999% of the time.

Don't worry though, when the site goes down, I will have an index page here to take you to a temporary forum located on another server (The FutureSox one) or potentially to a dedicated ip address of the new server were working on.

I'm going to try my best to cause all the downtime in the middle of the night, but if the site does get shut off tomorrow at some time then it will be down until I can make the switch, which I will try and do as fast as possible.

I'm going to hope that nothing happens while I'm at my finals tomorrow and that I can come back, watch the Sox game and then after that get to work, close the board down (probably for a 2 HR period) and then get the site switched over. The only flaw will be that for a few days the site will be redirected to an ip addie, but when you type in www.soxtalk.com you shouldn't have any issues, it will just take a few seconds to kick you over to the new server.

After a few days (basically once I can point the DNS to the new server) then the issue will likely be over.

Once again, sorry for this trouble, but I just want to inform everyone what is going on. I won't be around for the rest of the night or tomorrow, but once I'm done with school, I'll work as long as it takes to get this site switched to the new server so their isn't anymore outages of this variety.

No need to apologize dude. You're doing us all a huge favor by running this place for us all to enjoy.

:cheers

Jas, just do what ya got to do, you know we all appriecate what you do so much. You need any help, with whatever, shoot me over a PM.

Absolutely, don't let this take your focus away from your finals which are WAY more important. We all think you do a kickass job around here, and if wasn't for you and the other mods like Murcie and Alex there wouldn't be a SoxTalk. :crying

That sounds way more complicated than I thought was going on. I just figured you didn't pay the electric bill and they turned out the lights on ya. :D

knock 'em dead on those exams. THEN chain yourself to your workstation simply for our collective benefit. :)

I'd like to add, if for some reason this thing goes down tomorrow, I think we can have it back up pretty quickly - perhaps as early as tomorrow night (well, LATE for you central and eastern time zones). I've got the process started to move this, and we'll see what happens - wish us a smooth transition! :)

At the risk of sounding like a dumbass wouldn't it be easier just to delete alot of the old threads....

I mean I can't imagine we need a bunch of topics from 2002....

thanx for all you do.

didn't realize how much I miss this site until I couldn't access it.

Sultan Pimp of Soxtalk, dedicated student, what else can ya ask for?

The old threads don't really have an effect Jeckle. Its basically the people viewing. The old threads are just taking up space which the site has plenty of. The big thing is the large viewership the site gets (and thats a good thing :) ).

ALso, if for whatever reason something happens tomorrow during the day and you need a board, just visit http://www.futuresox.com/forum

Hopefully it won't come to that, but I want to throw it out as an option. I am going to probably ask for their to be no game thread tomorrow cause it puts the most pressure on the server. IT will be a one time only thing and everyone can meet up in the chatroom. http://www.whitesoxcentral.com/chat.html

But then what would we do to bump threads from 2 years ago?

Besides, this is in a database, and it's easier to move the entire database then it is peices of it, and furthermore, that's not the problem.

All I got to say is withdrawl is a b****. Other than that, take care of those finals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

do what yous gotta do... :cheers

good luck with those finals Jas!!!

Yeah, no need to apoligize dude, this site is awesome and your a huge part of it. Keep up the good work on this growing web site.

Well, can't you delete some of them then??

I love Soxtalk.. :cheers :cheers :drink

Sure Jason, just kill it in the middle of the night. No one is online at that time.

Just kidding. Do what you gotta do. We all appreciate the effort you guys put into maintaining this site.

Hey, I was out so I didn't even know what happened. Take your time with everything. We appreciate everything you do to maintain the best site on the net!

Jason! :headbang

Soxtalk, thanks for the long hours online! All of you members rock, even you Jeckle and ChiSox143.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Jason, thanks for all you do, and good luck on those finals! :cheers

have you ever thought of going to EZBoard or Insiders.

Their white sox sites suck.

Thanks for the understanding guys. This move should solve the problems as of late. And if it doesn't, I have Kapkomets name, address, and phone number, and we can all do to his house and kick his ass.
