now how many "prospects" have we given up for

carl is a good addition, obviously, but i find it questionable to acquire the guy (just ONE guy) before the deadline in back-to-back years and give up players both times.

what was the contract he signed with montreal last year?

Five, count 'em, five.

Yup and they're all such great prospects. rolleyeyes.gif

Many people seem to forget that if we wanted to retain him we would have had to offer arbitration, he was making around $9 million I believe. This is a much more fair price and the only prospect that I wish we had out of all of them is Francisco. Many of you would probably be crucifying KW if he offered Everett arbitration and paid him a ton. :D

Not another Thread :headshake

Actually, Webster and Rupe are very highly regarded. Francisco is pitching in the Major Leagues now.

Webster is quietly putting up a nice year and Rupe is dominating after coming off an injury that kept him out for the first two months of this season.

I agree with Rupe being a good prospect. Francisco is a descent bullpen guy. Webster is batting .267, how's that a good year? Personally I don't think Webster is that much of a prospect.

Webster is/was the best of the bunch, and he was so young you never know what would have happened. Francisco is doing a good job this year and Rupe could have a decent career, but the only guy who had potential "star-dom" is Webster, and again, being so young you never know how exactly he'll progress

Alright question for everyone.

I know it doesnt really matter cause it doesnt look like RJ is moving now, but do you think Olivo, Reed, Morse, Rauch, and Majeski could have landed the Big Unit?

Substitute a SP prospect for Maj and i think Arizona would have seriously considered it

But is having Johnson > Garcia + Everett? Not trying to spin it either way, just wondering...

Ya but what have any of the prospects done as of yet, and also how much money was actually paid to him by the Sox? The answer to both questions is not much.

Frankie Francisco is only in the majors pitching well for the Rangers right now. rolleyeyes.gif

1-1 with a 4.38 ERA. Not terrible, but obviously you didn't do your homework on your argument. rolleyeyes.gif

I believe Everett's contract next year is for $3MM.

I also believe we could have gotten Walker and his $12MM salary next year for Rauch and Maj. Much, Much, Much better player, but obviously very expensive.

He's struggled with his control. That's been his main problem. IIRC, he was in A-ball with us last year, so that means he was in AA this year...he was defiantely rushed to the majors, but his .216 BAA is very solid, and he has an excellent K/9 of around 12.5, though his WHIP is 1.38(again, due to his lack of control...he will struggle with control...as he gets older, that will improve).

He's a young pitcher...he will have a few blow-ups, much like his blowup against Boston, where he gave up 3 ER in 2/3 of an inning. Take that ONE outing out, and his ERA is 3.38.

ERA alone is not a good determining factor for relievers...one bad outing can make your ERA look very, very s***ty.

I will tell you this, I wouldn't mind having him over here over Mike Jackson right now...he has a very live arm, and is very talented. He could be a top setup man for Texas in a couple years.

Oh yeah... rolleyeyes.gif

That's super, but we had a need last year, and Everett did give us a boost with no financial cost to us. So...... rolleyeyes.gif

Here, let me spell it out for you.......

Webster is hitting .267 with an OBP of .352 and a slugging % of .444. For those of you that are OPS fans, that is an .800 OPS from a top of the order type hitter.

He has 18 doubles, 6 triples and 7 HR (31 extra base hits). He has scored 52 times, driven in 39 runs and stolen 17 bases while only being caught 3 times.

He is on pace to score 85-90 runs, drive in 60 runs and steal 25+ bases.

From a young kid who is strong defensively in the OF, I can comfortably say that he is having a nice season. Don't get blinded by one stat.

And that boost got the Sox where last year???

So you're saying Frankie would have gotten us over the hump? The team under acheived, and we all know why. Everett did his part, and was a good acquisition then and is now as well.

When Frank comes back, what are we looking at as far as our lineup?

LF Lee

CF Everett? Harris? Rowand?

RF Mags

3B Crede

SS Valentin

2B Uribe? Harris?

1B Konerko

DH Thomas

Everett isn't that great a fielder, dont' get me wrong, this trade doesn't bother me much, it's just that I wonder if we could have found a better trade in which the person we trade for would have been a better fit once Thomas came back.

He's in A ball, or did they take him up to Double A?

Sounds like Everett's season in 1998 Rex

I'd rather see the Sox take their chances on resigning Maggs. Whose to ever say that Walker stays healthy. I'd rather acquire Griffey Jr and no, I'm not really in favor of either.
