My best friend went to the New Pornographers as well. I havent talked to him yet, but I will have to ask him how it was.

It doesn't matter to me what religion he is, what accent he uses, or what the lyrics mean.

Reminds me of this kid I went to HS with who had hip hop dreams. He was 100% Mexican but claimed to somehow be um 'half Muslim'. His rap name was "Aztec X". I couldn't make that up.

Slightly off-topic, but I had to do a slideshow on why drugs are bad, and I picked up one of those books on marijuana in my school library, and on one of the pages it showed a picture of Wu-Tang Clan on stage and the caption said, "many rap groups, like the Wu-Tang Clan, use marijuana." That was it, and the funny part about it, it was in a "how does marijuana affect the body" section. At least I thought it was funny.

Wu Tang is not only for 12 year olds. Wu Tang is highly respected by anyone who knows their hip hop not just 12 year olds.

Dude, why are you even bothering with hip hop from this year? The genre has been dead since the late 90s. Do you have the Krown Rulers repress from 1988? I tracked down their album on cassette back in the mid-90s, and I eventually got the original wax (appeared to be mint but with pops and clicks everywhere and s***ty sound due to tracks truncated on a single record). It has finally been repressed! That is the one you want, man. Seriously, run (don't walk) to sandbox automatic and pick that up. If Rakim is your favorite, you'll want to give me oral sex after hearing the "Paper Chase" LP.

Yeah, the Genius album from 1991 and some of his verses on the Wu Tang debut are amazing, but otherwise, it's for the kiddies. I can't figure out who is more pathetic: Raekwon or Ghostface Killah? All of their lyrics were inspired by mafia movies. They suck hard.

 

But RZA is a legendary producer, so maybe you like the beats first and foremost. I have the instrumental LP for their first album (limited to only 100 copies I think), and it's unbelievably good.

You can still find good hip hop around. I guess you're not really excited about some of the albums that should come out this year. For example Madvillain 2, Ghost, Nas, Can Ox, PUTS...just to name some.
