I was just thinking about Weezer's Pinkerton album. Because I was listening to it on the way to work today.

 

It kind of reminds me of PetSounds/Smile stuff in a way. Because it was Rivers really opening himself up and exposing himself on a CD to the rest of the world. It failed so badly, and the work was so misunderstood that the band just kinda disappeared for a while. And what came back just isn't as good. Or as personal.

Sometimes you just have to let an album soak in for a little while. The band didnt really disappear as much as the Rivers decided to go to college(Yale or Harvard, cant remember). I remember playing El Scorcho in SIU's college station WIDB and thinking that I kind of liked it, but I couldnt see it going over well with the mainstream, coming off of how huge The Sweater Song and Buddy Holly were.

It was panned huge when it first came out. Critically and commercially a flop and from what I understand, it did nearly break the band up. They haven't written anything anywhere close to as personal or raw or based on emotion. Now its all deconstructed Nirvana songs with not much feeling behind them.

haha, i love ghostface...my friend put it best...when comparing ghostface, you dont' compare it to his last album, you compare to every rap album ever...he's that good but i'm durnk'

i just bought LIars - drum's not dead and McLusky - McLuskyism(3cd farewell from my favorite group of welchman that just make fun of everything)

 

this McLusky is awesome... i've had liars forever and its my favorite of the year so far. It's so beautiful. They got this studio in east berlin where the commies used to do stories over the radio so they had these 5 rooms in the studio with incredible acoustics where they'd record like crunching footsteps and stuff so they used all the rooms and its just this incredibly atmospheric album with amazing drumming...

Tomorrow afternoon I am picking up the 2-DVD set "The Arsenal Of Megadeth".

You know, at one time I think Megadeth was really on a roll with "Symphony of Destruction" and "Sweating Bullets", and then they just faded faster than a hypercolor t-shirt(ha, im dating myself). Dave Mustain had some good things going on, I wonder what happened. Youthanasia just wasnt up to par after Countdown to Extinction.

The new David Gilmour cd, "On An Island" is quite good. There could be some bias there because I've been waiting so long for some new Gilmour material, but, I am liking this.

 

It's not great by any stretch of the imagination, but, it's good.
