September 13, 200421 yr I'll take that Atlanta deal, but I don't think they'd do it. I'd also look at the Baltimore deal, except - please, find a way to get Jerry Hairston. He's putting up some very, very good numbers, and would be a great leadoff man. And another guy I'd also love to have is Johnny Damon. Give me him and Bill Mueller (Mueller might be a FA) and that'd be peaches. Would you guys do Konerko for Damon straight up if it was the one deal on the table? I would. Damon is like Ichiro Jr. at the plate, in the fact of how he is able to find the little holes in the defense and just dribble balls right through there...
September 13, 200421 yr Atl could very well could deal Furcal. Getting his 2nd DUI in 2 years says something, and drops his price. I don't think it will sit well w/ Bobby Cox. Maybe Ozzie and Co. could get the kid to settle down. I think they have a SS [don't they always] not far off from the bigs
September 13, 200421 yr I'd cry if we got Furcal and Cruz. I'd walk over a cliff because they'd never give us both of them for Slownerko. Maybe one, but not both.

September 14, 200421 yr I like the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as a big time possibility for Konerko. Pinella desperately wants a Right Handed Power Hitter for his LineUp. Adding Konerko to that team could mean a huge boost in runs. Whiel I like everyone else would love to have Carl Crawford. I see a Konerko for Baldelli deal as a good fit. Tampa Bay have a ton of Young OFs, but none have power. *The only hangup here is that Pinella is probably on his way to the Mets. If and when he does that, it will be interesting to see what happens to the Devil Rays and their makeup.
September 14, 200421 yr I see a Konerko for Baldelli deal as a good fit. I'd f***ing go streak outside if we got my favorite non sox player..
September 14, 200421 yr Why do you guys create a wish list of players who will never be traded for Konerko? Right now, no one knows the trade value he has, but it won't be Baldelli, Furcal, or Jones. Hopefully, Kenny will find out and not screw it up.
September 14, 200421 yr Why do you guys create a wish list of players who will never be traded for Konerko? Right now, no one knows the trade value he has, but it won't be Baldelli, Furcal, or Jones. Hopefully, Kenny will find out and not screw it up. If you don't think Konerko can bring a good player(s) to the Sox in a trade then you are crazy. Konerko almost brought an MLB proven starter in Odalis Perez after his worst season ever. Now teams have a shot to bring in a big time power hitter to play first base for 8 million dollars. That not much cash to pay a guy for a year if a team is going to try and go for it. I for one hope that the Sox don't deal PK, but I can tell you there will be a ton of teams that will want to talk to KW at the winter meetings about him.
September 14, 200421 yr In a very similar situation, look what the Brew Crew got for Sexson. Sure Sexson is younger and better than Konerko, but he brought in: Overbay, Spivey, Capuano, and Counsell. I'd be happy to get two players of that caliber, let alone four.
September 14, 200421 yr Konerko has more value now vs. last year, that's for sure. Whether he'll bring top flight talent, or the right talent to fill a big Sox need, remains to be seen. One thing I'm very confident of ... Sox will trade a marquee player and get a couple guys in return, maybe some guys we don't know too well. And many of us will have a fit about it. We have to be prepared for something like that, they aren't blowing up the team but they are retooling it and Ozzie knows who he wants. That's why in my mind, we'd be looking at NL teams since Ozzie had been in the NL for a few years and likes that style of baseball. Just a hunch. Plus, if you trade a big bopper, get him into the other league so he doesn't hurt you as much.

Hmm, since Ozzie coached at Florida, you think he can put in the good word and get a Konerko for Beckett/Mota/Willis/Pierre/Castillo/Cabrera deal, or am I dreaming?

Looks like Tampa Bay will be resigning local boy Timo Martinez to play at 1st, but they could still use Konerko as a DH or move Martinez there. If Seattle or Los Angeles miss out on Sexson and Delgado, then they definitely want a slugger like Konerko in their lineup. Even the Blue Jays could be an option, they'll need a replacement for Delgado, since they don't have Josh Phelps no more. Baltimore definitely has money to spend this offseason, and since it's more likely that Palmeiro won't be back there next season, they could definitely go after Konerko, but they'll go after starting pitching first. A package of Bigbie or Matos and Hairston Jr. would be a nice start.

September 14, 200421 yr do anyone have confidence in kw tading away talent and getting s*** in return????
September 14, 200421 yr I see a Konerko for Baldelli deal as a good fit. Imo baldelli will be the last of gathright, huff, and crawford because he has the potential to be a three hole hitter and is extremely young.
September 14, 200421 yr Imo baldelli will be the last of gathright, huff, and crawford because he has the potential to be a three hole hitter and is extremely young. get real, do you think the marlins would do that trade and if so, why?
September 14, 200421 yr We should be more interested in Konerko than anyone. He's a rock on offense and a really good bargain at his price. For the love oe god dont trade this guy!
September 14, 200421 yr Author get real, do you think the marlins would do that trade and if so, why? Drays could if they wanted a power bat, something they could definately use, but unless Pinella can convince ownership to add payroll, it ain't happening. Also, I don't see them giving up a guy like Baldelli for Konerko, considering the cash difference as well. However, if the DRays did it, I'd sure as hell pull the trigger. But its a pipe dream, imo.
September 14, 200421 yr However, if the DRays did it, I'd sure as hell pull the trigger. But its a pipe dream, imo. i agree a pipe dream as is much of all these trade ideas. we do not know what the value of our players are going to be until the winter gets here and you have to go with the idea of kw pulling the trigger on the trade. which is not toooo comforting.

One reason why konerko value will not be as high is because he only has one year left on his contract. We won't be getting any players that are 1 or 2 years into their first contract for him.

September 14, 200421 yr Author But its also a semi good thing, because teams don't have to worry about being stuck with a long contract. Plus players tend to put up awesome numbers during their contract year. I'd say it be a problem if Konerko was the type of guy who looks for the most money and is all about FA, but he never has given off that kind of attitude. However, if the Sox would rather deal Lee, thats fine too, Gload plays a fine left field and you can add a RF via free agency. Both Lee and Konerko have similiar contracts. Just in my opinion I'd rather have Lee, but I think Konerko is the smarter player.
