October 3, 200421 yr So, why is that important? I believe it was Heads (I could be wrong about that, though) who said that if we finished fifteenth or below (worst record-wise), we wouldn't have to give up our first round pick in next year's draft if we sign a Group/Class A Free Agent. I don't know how the rules work as to us being tied with Florida, but Florida did take two out of three from us this year - so I'm hoping that we will get the 15th spot, and Florida will take 16th. But I could be wrong on that. Can anyone clarify? Grr - I hate being middle of the pack. I really wish that we tanked it so much down the stretch that we got a top ten pick, but oh well...
October 3, 200421 yr Right in the middle again. We're just an average team. Hopefully next year will be better.
October 4, 200421 yr In the event of a tie, whoever had the worst record last year gets the higher spot. So, I think we had a better record than the Marlins, didn't we? Then we would get 15th.
October 4, 200421 yr marlins had a better '03 record than we did. we'll pick 15th--and won't have to give up our 1st-round pick if we sign a big-ticket free agent. not that that'll happen.

Maybe the minor league hard core nerds could answer this.

October 4, 200421 yr Does anyone KNOW the answer to this? I believe false alarm and and farm team answered it.
October 4, 200421 yr I believe false alarm and and farm team answered it. Emphasis on know. I don't think they were sure.
October 4, 200421 yr Yeah, we 'know' now. I was pretty positive, but False alarm was sure. If you want proof, give me a minute, I'll get it.
October 4, 200421 yr Alright, here's the proof. From the September 29th Ask BA with Jim Callis. The reason is that baseball has changed its draft rules, effective in 2005. Rather than having the leagues take turns going first and alternating picks, the draft order now will be based solely on team records from the previous year (and the year before that, if needed to break ties). So, there you have it.
October 5, 200421 yr Alright, here's the proof. From the September 29th Ask BA with Jim Callis. So, there you have it. Thank you. That's what I was looking for.
