Nick Johnson

Rumors are the Expos/Nationals/Senators want Wilkerson to play 1st so that they can free up room in the outfield. His value is extremely low right now, and he's another of those low risk/high reward guys KW likes so much. If we pull off a deal trading PK, and then maybe throw Munoz and a couple mid prospects at them to get N. Johnson, well first we'd be acquiring two Johnsons :bang then we'd have a powerful left handed stick who'd probably thrive off of Coors East.

I'd like the idea of Johnson if they dealt PK. I wonder if Munoz and a mid level would get it done. Injuries have probably hurt his trade value and if he doesn't have a spot in Montreal that will also hurt his value.

Still they'd be trading a guy on the low. But I'd be all for it, as long as the Sox didn't give up too much. Him and Gload would be a nice combo, even though both are lefties.

I still like Gload but I guess its semi obvious they think of him as a bench player (well if Levine is right, cause Levine continues to say thats how the Sox see him).

Jas, the Expos saw Munoz first hand. You think they want him?

I think Ozzie thinkg Gload is capable of handling first. I think Gload is capable. SOme do not, and this guy here is low risk, high reward. He puts together a full season, I think he could put up some monster numbers, especially here. He would complement Frank and his massive OBP with his own massive OBP nicely. Two guys that can get on at a .400 clip = a good thing. More known as a line dirve hitter, and many of his line drives could fly out of the Cell. If he comes cheap, I say we go after him if/when we trade Konerko.

I thoguht about that and was thinking, he could always throw batting practice. I'm sure that kind of bp display would bring fans to the park early

Of course another option would be Jay Gibbons. If Gload fails at first Gibbons can slide their (plays a good first base) and if they need a RF Gibbons plays their.

I really think Gibbons would be a good fit because he's versatile, hits lefthanded, has shown he can hit for a decent average when healthy, and has power. He also is a good defensive player and is still young, so he's just about to enter his prime.

If he gets non-tendered the Sox should be all over him.

Munoz may not be the answer.. this should be what we'd be trading JOn Rauch for, not Carl Everett.

I never understood why they were in such a big hurry to get rid of Rauch. Supposedly that deal where he left early was cleared up. Then, the guy comes out and shuts down Cleveland. He was out 5th starter answer, IMO. I would have much rather traded Diaz there.

Shuts down cleveland? No, more like got lucky all day. Everything that was hit was hit like a rocket. He gave up six hits in five innings and walked three. No way he was ever gonna be sucessful imo.

I remember watching the game, but I do not recall the specifics. However, I do remember thinking he pitched well. His numbers were not that bad. Walks and hits were high for 5 innings, but nevertheless, 1 run against Cleveland is shutting them down, IMO.

Guess we just have different opinions of shutting a team down.

I looked further into the box score and saw that rauch did give up 1 ground ball as opposed to 10 fly balls. Like I said, I don't remember the actual game itself, except for thinking he pitched well and shut down Cleveland.

I haven't been a fan of Rauch in sometimes and I personally thought it was good to unload him. In hindsight it would of probably been better to get someone other then Everett, but I think absolutely nothing of Jon Rauch in terms of being a major league pitcher.

He may make it, but he's not the kind of guy I want on the White Sox.

Shuts down Cleveland?

Give me a f***ing break.

5 IP, 6 H, 3 BB, 4K's.

He got bailed out in the sixth when the game was still close at 3-1 by Cliff Politte and some amazing defense by Rowand prevented the game from being tied in the fifth.

The game-saver came with two outs in the fifth, the White Sox leading by a 3-1 margin and Matt Lawton and Omar Vizquel on base. Jody Gerut ripped a shot headed for the right-center field gap, which certainly would have tied the game. But Rowand made a lunging catch, running into the fence after hauling it in.

"I knew there were runners on base, so I knew I needed to get to it," Rowand said. "If I run into the wall, then I run into the wall. If I didn't make the play, I knew it was a tie ballgame."

"Aaron Rowand is the reason I'm standing here with a smile on my face," Rauch added.

Shuts down Cleveland?

To quote Lee Elia, MY f***ING ASS!!!

I was at that game ... cold, windy, and rainy. Ugly day.

Rauch was not impressive, not at all. The Rowand catch was spectacular, one of the year's best IMO. It bailed Rauch out, big time.

I remember how hard I was rooting for Rauch that day. He'd been a prospect for so long and they'd needed a 5th starter for almost as long.

But after that performance I thought, "this guy is nothing special".

That is how i recalled it also, just like the last two previous posts. :)

Game saving catch or not, he still only gave up one run. Like qwerty said earlier, I guess are opinions will differ on this one.

No to Johnson. If Pauly is traded I want to see Gload at first.

No to Johnson. I'm still hoping we can get more speed at 1B.

As for Rauch I'm suprised we were ever able to get Everett for him.

Nothing special about a 6'11 pitcher who can barely crack 92 MPH on the gun...

rauch had the luck of amazing defense both games he started in anaheim the only reason he lasted as long as he did is because it seemed that there was a defensive gem every inning and then in the indian game rowand was the best one but there were other defensive good plays too

Nick Johnson's OBP and that fact he's a good lefty bat would be a definite plus for the Sox. I could care less about speed from the 1B position. If you can get it, great, but it's hardly a prerequisite.

I want to see Gload play too, but if we could have a healthy Nick Johnson, take him in a heartbeat. Is Gload the possible RF solution??? IIRC, wasn't he pretty brutal there a couple games last season? I would think he could work on that.

Gload was very brutal in RF.

Gload was very brutal in RF.

I thought so.
