December 11, 200421 yr Yeah if Russ Ortiz is in the 11-12 mil/yr range, there is no doubt that Garcia has to be at least there, if not a notch above that. The sheer fact that we have our pitchers locked up at under market long term deals is a huge bonus for this team, as it gave them the cash to grab other players. If we had kept Olivo and Reed, and tried to sign a pitcher, we would be looking at probably having both Grilli and Diaz in the rotation next year. Yep. That trade sucked, didn't it?
December 11, 200421 yr Yep. That trade sucked, didn't it? Sometimes you have to view trades outside of the box. Yes we gave up some quality players to get Garcia. But I look at it as basically Seattle has given us $3 million in cash, because we were able to get signed so cheaply.

Ortiz signed in the $8 mil per range, not sure why that's so sick considering he's won 100 games the last 6 yrs. Garcia has won 85 and is making $9 mil per.

I have to admit, I went and looked at all the numbers and Ortiz is a better pitcher than I gave him credit for ... I also thought he signed for more money than he did. You make a good case.

I have no doubt that Russ Ortiz will suffer big time, away from Atlanta. I did just realize I was mixing up Glaus and Ortiz's contracts, that's where I got the $11 million a year from. Also wins are much more a product of the teams behind those particular players. Ortiz keeps playing on division winning teams.

I'm just a little surprised that many Sox fans don't seem to like him when he's pretty much a RH'ed Buehrle. Didn't Garcia play on some pretty damm good teams too? Give me a starter who knows how to "just win" anytime over your speedgun demons(read Kerry Wood).
December 11, 200421 yr Author braves fans dont even like russ ortiz and he walks way too many people and would get rocked in the AL especially in the Cell.... although he isnt a bad pitcher id rather spend the money on something else and im glad he isnt ours.

December 11, 200421 yr He might be the complete opposite of Mark Buehrle. Exactly, buehrle is a finesse control pitcher. Ortiz is a finesse hope it gets called for a strike sort of pitcher.
December 11, 200421 yr Definitely true. While I've advocated trading Konerko, seeing him go will be tough. I'll admit it. He had me in tears when, in 2003, amidst one of the worst slumps I've ever seen, Paully manages to jack an 0-2 off of Eddie Guardado into the left-centerfield stands. I was in tears, so happy for the guy... Wanted to add, in the tenth inning. What a f***ing game that was... wow tears over somebody you don't even know huh.....cough..loser..cough
December 12, 200421 yr wow tears over somebody you don't even know huh.....cough..loser..cough WTF is your problem?

December 12, 200421 yr wow tears over somebody you don't even know huh.....cough..loser..cough Sometimes when I'm bored I watch old Sox games on MLB.TV with moments like that, and I get goosebumps and teary-eyed. But I am admittedly pathetic.
