Constantine

Featured Replies

This movie looks absolutely stunning, not to mention one of my favorites Peter Stormare is playing Satan.

Plot

John Constantine (Keanu) is a world-travelling, mage-like misfit who investigates supernatural mysteries and the like, walking a thin line between evil and good. Constantine then teams up with a female police detective, Angela(Weisz), who seeks Constantine's help while investigating the suicide-like death of her twin sister...

I disagree

it looks terrible :puke

Ive seen the stupid trailer twice now in recent movies

For me, Keanu Reeves = avoid at all costs.

One of my least favorite actors of all time.

Ahhh way to rain on my parade. I don't mind Keanu but the effects in this movie look awesome. Not too mention an outstanding supporting cast. I'm a little worried about the writing, and the director has only done music videos so far. But that's where lots of good directors have started... I think.

Keanu Reeves in anything serious is a mistake. The guy is a comedy actor at best, sometimes can pull off a weak action movie.

Bill & Ted was his best work. LoL

eh, the first matrix was good inspite of his monotonic acting so i have hope this one will be ok too. either way i'm waiting for this to come out on dvd.

I just the love the fact that the first thing he says in the trailer is "Woah."

Same here.

He clearly says Wah.

Well I saw it tonight and your concerns about Keanu Reeves were correct in this case.

Here's my mini-review from film-talk.com

Wow some great special effects, maybe the greatest but...

and a huge bunch of buts

The pacing on this movie is pretty bad, I and most of the other people in the theatre never seemed to be pulled into the story and it dragged on at the same pace for basically the whole film.

Keanu Reeves didn't fit the part at all and I'm not one of those who just hates on Keanu cause he always says "Whoa". His character was supposed to be badass and other than smoking a lot he didn't sell it at all. I mean he was supposed to be bangin' chicks without remorse and s*** like that, and Keanu Reeves could never have pulled off a character like that. Plus he looks like a pretty boy no matter what, despite the weak attempt with makeup to look ill.

See now that guys looks mean, Reeves does not. (I never even read the comic and I still felt Reeves came up short of the mark)

Also and this is probably just my bad for having a short attention span, I found myself not even listening to what the characters were even saying. I mean the Gabriel and Constantine relationship was superbly BORING. And this was obviously an important relationship to the film so...yah.

Gavin Rossdale and Djimon Honsou were fun characters and played there roles fittingly. But Satan on the other hand played by Stormare(what I thought was a good decision on casting)was annoying and at the end of a long film like this didn't need an eccentric goof like him. Pruit Taylor Vince's character was also really weird and didn't fit very well in the film, was he an aid to Constantine searching for problems for Constantine to fix, did we really need him? I'll admit the character who found Destiny's Spear had a nice touch that car thing and then the cows was really beautiful

Oh and the whole Angela and Isabelle twins part of the plot... uninteresting, but Rachel Weisz was solid as usual.

On the whole it was interesting but not really satisfying

6/10 but thumbs down

spoiler:

This is one movie that does not need a sequel. Now that Constantine has turned complete pansy with the gum, will his character be even less edgy?

Oh and what's with Shia Lebeouf's stupid hat?

yeah i watched it too and i loved the storyline and all but Reeves has no emotions at all in his acting its like me or you could of done it but overall id recommend seeing the movie just dont expect it to be in your top 10.

i just hate keanu plain and simple... he's a disgrace to actors everywhere. haha... hmm... yeah... but seriously, anything he's in is automatically knocked down a notch or two in my book.

I thought it was a pretty solid movie. Having a religious background and an interest in the story helped me get over any shortcoming by Reeves. I actually learned to like his rather jaded approach to the part. His character more or less has to trick himself to believe that there's any hope for his soul by destroying demons, but the desperation shines through. Rachel Weiz(sp?) is very attractive as usual. Shia Labuef(once again, sp?) is entertaining. And the effects are great. I loved the scene with Lucifer at the end.

8 of 10 for me. Don't expect anying amazing, and you'll be entertained. Nice cameo by Gavin Rosdale of Bush, too.
