Just heard it on espn radio

They are indeed reporting this as a done deal on ESPN News...

Mulder to St. Louis

The Big Three is now down to one. ESPN's Peter Gammons reports A's ace Mark Mulder has been traded to the Cardinals for pitchers Danny Haren, Kiko Calero and catcher Daric Barton. Earlier in the week, Oakland sent Tim Hudson to Atlanta.

Damn....Oakland's surprising me....

A's are definitely in trouble without Mulder and Hudson achoring their rotation. I imagine Beane extracted a good package from St. Louis, but you simply can't compensate the production of Mulder/Hudson with trades for minor league talent.

For Haren, Calero and Barton whoever they are

Damn....Oakland's surprising me....

It's all about the future for them now.

Too bad for the Scrubs.

It's all about the future for them now.

Well they definitely gave up on the present...

Oakland's conceding 2005. A 2006 rotation of Harden, Blanton, Meyer, Haren, and Zito/Cruz/? could be pretty impressive, though.

The A's might be the worst team in the AL West next year.

Why trade for Kendall if you are just going to decimate your pitching staff?

It's just a sign of how messed up the financial status of baseball is right now. Teams like Oakland have to unload these guys now to still get some worth for them and they need young talent in return. My guess is that 2-3 of the 6 players acquired in these deals will pan out at the major league level and in 4-5 years, they will be traded right back to the big market clubs. It so tough to compete in baseball with a payroll below 60 million.

Damn, this only makes the Cards even better. :o Now if the Astros can resign Beltran, the Cubs will have a very, very tough time next year.

They have a bright, bright future in one or two years from now. I would not even be that pissed if i was an a's fan.

nice move, by both teams.

He'll be a nice trading piece somewhere down the line.

You think they might be in the running now for whats left of the FA pitcher market?

Of course you would be pissed.

How would you feel if management conceeded next season by trading two excellent starting pitchers for prospects?

Kendell had a no trade clause, right? He should be pissed.

Of course you would be pissed.

Exactly.

I'd be pissed if I were an A's fan. They are pulling the plug on a team thats been close to winning it all for a while. Unlike the Sox they almost alwyas make the playoffs and have just fallen short.

Horrible moves by Beane. They've got some godo young arms, but it takes more then a year or two for those guys to develop, especially without a veteran pitcher to help them.

On a sidenote, I bet they move Zito too.

You think they might be in the running now for whats left of the FA pitcher market?

I'm not certain of the money available outside of Mulder/Hudsons departure, but from those two certaintly the remaining SP market doesn't favor Oakland.

Of course you would be pissed.

I think you could easily live with it if you were going to contend for the next 5 seasons afterwards, which is what the A's are going to do.

Kenny: Hey Billy...um...what do want for Zito?

Billy: Whatcha got?

Kenny: How high??...oh you didn't ask me to jump...

:D

How do you know? Essentially they're getting prospects back in the deal. Prospects are just that -- prospects. They may never pan out. They had two of the best pitchers in the AL, and just traded them away.

Like Jason said, If I'm an A's fan, I'd be pissed as hell.
