He is worth more than clement. But with this market who the hell knows. I would gladly put him in the rotation. Problem is, we have five starters and not enough money tpo sign him at this point.

He might be worth more than Clement, but in this goofy inflated market he's probably not going to be worth what he'll get.

I think your putting to much faith in El Duque, for someone who has not pitched much in the past 2 years, we are banking allot on him.

imo the sox has too much faith in 2 pitchers, duke and contri. what if one or both fails, what do we have then?? or better yet who do we have to replace them?? if that happens, garland will go to the #3 slot and then hermanson to the #4 pitcher. then we trade and give up prospects to get another lame pitcher.

 

again i am not sold on both el duke and contreras, too many question marks to depend on. are we getting into the hype of the sox machine or are we looking at this with open eyes???

Probably ABOUT the same money as Clement. At this point though, it's unlikely they'll sign another starter.

I agree with you on this, even if he cant eat up too many innings. The innings that he does eat up with be a better quality than those two pitchers. Their ERA will both jump up if they both are moving to the american league. Which would mean that Duque would be a better value.

He is supposed to meet with the Mets soon, if their Benson contract is any indication of what they're willing to pay for pitchers, he may get atleast Clement money

I don't think he or Clements are worth the kind of money they were/are demanding. Clements has a record under .500 and Perez hasn't shown consistency either as far as winning. The money these guys are getting is just not realistic.

 

Plus do you really think KW is going to be after any more starting pitchers? I would guess we might be looking at other needs now.

Very very true. I have hope for Garland but that's all it is. Perez would be a nice addition.

I'm still iffy about Contreas..we're banking on him to live up to the hype..he had some nice pitched games for us last year, but can he be consistent the entire year..especially against above .500 teams?

I'm confident if healthy Hernandez can pitch some quality games for us, but I have a feeling he's gonna get like dead arm late in the season when we really need him and then what..

Good thing the pen is improved..we might need them more than ever.

I think Perez will be headed to Seattle, Adrian Beltre was making a pretty big pitch for him to join him up there. Afterwards, one of Gil Meche or Ryan Franklin will most likely be traded as well.

The potential reward outweighs the risk I think though. Clement for 3 years is an iffy proposition with the state of his arm. Now Perez I wouldn't have minded, but yes he got killed in the playoffs, and yes he didn't exactly fit in great with L.A's clubhouse. Even if El Duque struggles, B-Mac should be ready in 2006 to take over his rotation spot if we need him to.

 

But if El Duque can produce like he did last season, 15 wins and a ERA of about 4 is certainly not out of the question. But Ozzie has to watch out for his pitch counts, because we all know he likes to leave his starters in there, and with the additions to the bullpen, he doesn't really need to do that as much in 2005.

it might not hurt to get an insurance pitcher in case any of our starters bite the big one, but hermanson can prolly be that guy if the price isnt right

I agree. Perez to Seattle is probably a sure thing. They were trying to play money-ball there this past year & the fans were outraged. They received so many calls that they just said F-it. Spend the money. Win or Lose, the fans will be happier that way.

 

Garcia was a big loss. Perez would help fill that void immensely for them.

Dude, I am just saying we are putting allot of faith in a guy who in 2 years has only pitched 84 2/3 innings, plus the fact that he is not no spring chicken.. who knows this might be one great move, but given KW track record..I just don't like it, IMO we over paid for him.
