January 4, 200521 yr The class of 2006 is a joke. That might be the chance for some of the older middling guys to have a shot at getting in.
January 4, 200521 yr Ryno is a borderline HoFer...I don't think he should be in during his 3rd/4th year of eligibility...whichever it is...however, I do think he should have and would have been voted in eventually. Career numbers of .285 282 1061 .795 over parts of 16 seasons are pretty solid numbers...and 2386 hits is a pretty good number too. He was one of the better 2B in the history of the game...whether he was the best is debateable. If you are one of the best ever at your position during the period of the game in which you played, you should be in.

Some players who didn't make the cut for the 2005 class included relief pitcher Bruce Sutter (66.7%), outfielder Jim Rice (59.5%), reliever Rich "Goose" Gossage (55.2%), outfielder Andre Dawson (52.3%) and pitchers Bert Blyleven (40.9%), Lee Smith (38.8%), Jack Morris (33.3%) and Tommy John (23.8%). Things are looking real good for Sutter, Rice, and maybe Gossage for 2006.

You can find some negative things about Bert, but you're not gonna read about them here, because I'm a spinmaster. And Andre Dawson... 438 HR 503 2B 98 3B That adds up to 1,039 Extra-Base Hits, and we're talking about a guy who peaked during the 80s. If it were up to me, he'd be in there. His 314 stolen bases are also very impressive. I think that Bruce Sutter might get the shaft because the longevity is just not there. Bruuuuce He had some damn good years, but I dunno if he's Hall Of Fame worthy. Jim Rice stats: 382 HR 373 2B 1451 RBI .298 AVG .352 OBP .502 SLUG That's a kick-ass career during an era when offensive numbers were hard to come by, but in the end, those numbers just ain't sexy enough, if you know what I'm sayin'.
