Could this be Joe Crede's year? Maybe I'm just hoping that it could be, but Aaron said that him and Walk have been working out this offseason on his swing.

I'm rooting for him and hoping for the best. I can only hope that he's about to make it.

I sure hope it is... if not though I bet it will be his last with the Sox....

I am a big Crede fan and want him to succeed. I think he has the talent, but needs some work to find that talent. If he can learn to shorten his swing, he will be a solid ballplayer.

Yeah at soxfest I was watching Arow talking with dave wills on ESPN Radio. Aaron said he took BP with Joe recently and that his mechanics were much better than last year.

Yeah, I was listening to that convo on AM 1000. Aaron said that Crede and Walker have been working the entire off season in Crede's new batting cage. Apparently they added a "trigger" to Joe's swing. I'm hoping for the best for the kid, I really do like him.

And I hope he's working on his throwing, too. I can't tell you how many errors Paulie has saved him in recent years by digging horrible throws out of the dirt.

It's a movement you make, every time, to begin your swing process. My kid had a problem with getting his swing started from a stop podition, so he ended up pointing his bat at the pitcher till the pitcher started his motion. That way the bat was already moving and it worked well for him until he decided he didn't need it.

 

EDIT: I thought of another example. If you've ever seen the commercial for those Tom Emanski instructional videos, all the kids will cock, or tense up, their knee on the backside of their stance. Right knee for right handed hitter.

Or watch Gary Sheffield. He'll whip that bat back and forth until the pitcher gets to a certain point in the windup, then he'll get ready to swing away. It's not a nervous twitch or anything - it's used as a timing mechanism. As a hitter, it's crucial to have the same approach every time up to the plate. If you change constantly, it's virtually impossible to get into any kind of rhythm and comfort zone. Kinda like swinging a golf club. The goal is to find the swing that suits you best, and stick to it. It's all about consistency.

I think it was Melton talking about it on the radio yesterday. If I understood him right, Joe's old timing mechanism makes him turn his right foot toward the pitcher, putting him out of position and lengthening his swing.

 

Have to watch him real close in ST and see if we can pick up what they are doing with him.

 

Hasn't Greg Walker been a big plus? It will be fun to see if he does anything with Podsednik.

I believe they said Crede's new trigger is when the pitch is coming toward him he will lift his front foot and shift his momentum to his back leg. Then when the ball is near enough he will be able to shift all his weight and be able to drive the ball...thats what I got out of it anyway....Kinda of like how Frank was doing as well. IIRC

I think Crede's gonna hit. He's got the talent, as that was displyed in the minors, and he's finally realized he needed to change things and he's working on getting that accomplished. I'd be surprised if Crede hit less than .265

I agree, I think that the thing that makes me the ticked off, is Crede turns it on about August- Sept time, and I get stooked that he going to come into the next season, come out swinging. But only to regress back to the long swing.

I wouldn't say it's a month, but I know you're in his corner YASNY along with a lot of great posters here like Rex. The thing is with Crede, he's not recognised as a good starter to a season, (stats would probably prove this), and Crede needs a good start to the year, otherwise there'll be calls to trade him, or trade for a guy who can hit for a higher average like Joe Randa possibly. But it's definitely a big year for him, his most important so far.

Greg Walker sounds like a heckuva devoted hitting coach.

Say Crede does solve the problem in the box, with his pretty good defense, do you think the sox will just use him as trade bait when Fields comes up or do you think they will make Fields learn a new position? If it does work out that way what would happen? I mean theres lots of possibilities that could happen, either one of them could be traded for an impact player but say the above scenario does happen what will the club do?

it'd be nice to have fields develop at another position....if he doesn't succeed...there's always a DH spot open for when Frank leaves...whoever is better defensively would play the field...or they could just switch. But if none of that...then hopefully Fields or Crede would bring in desired talent....that helps right away...and is as young as them.

I expect Joe Crediocre to hit .255 - 15 HR - 60 RBI. That's his norm, I guess. If he does better, then we should all dance in the streets. If he does worse, I won't be shocked at all.

 

I've never liked the guy, but I will embrace him if he actually pulls his head out of his ass and produces to the level that we have been waiting for.

 

This is his "make it or break it" year. He either gives us what he was expected to give, or he shows that he is nothing more than a larger version of Chris Snopek.
