I know what you are saying. It would be interesting to let everyone know that Randy Johson only had 3 wins by the age of 25. Garland has 46.

So what?

Who had more sucess in their first 4 complete seasons? Who showed more signs of being a great MLB pitcher?

I could only imagine the Sox signing some stud pitcher out of pony ball, and every time he got lit up, people would be screaming "HE'S ONLY 12 YEARS OLD!!!! HOW MANY WINS DID ROGER CLEMENS HAVE WHEN HE WAS 12???"

So are you blaming the Sox brass then for calling up Garland too early?

The Sox do have a reputation of rushing pitchers don't they? Kip Wells is another guy rushed too soon to the bigs, but in 2000, the Sox had problems in their rotation (some things never change.) I don't want to see BMac in the bigs (with the Sox of course) until '06.

Do you research and you will see.

Garland's first 5 years, 149 games, 46 wins, age 25

Johnson's first 5 years, 157 games, 56 wins, age 29

I'm not saying Garland is better than Johnson. I'm just saying GET OFF HIS f***ING BACK!!!

Do other people besides me consider contreras our fifth starter?

I agree with you 100% that Contreras needs to be the 5th starter

How about we throw wins out the window and look at era?

Why does it matter??

No, I've long considered Contreras the weak link, well him or El Duque, Duque simply because I have concerns over his durability.

GMAFB!

Garland vs. Contreras (Sox numbers assuming he qualified)

(AL rank)

OPS: Contreras .772 (21)

Garland .786 (28)

K/9: Contreras 8.2 (5)

Garland 4.69 (35)

K/BB: Contreras 1.62 (35)

Garland 1.49 (37)

G/F (remember, Garland is the "groundball" pitcher): Contreras 1.51 (11)

Garland 1.27 (17)

Contreras' problem is that he had a few horrid outings that people can't get out of their head. Garland will go 6 innings and give up 4 ER or he'll have a meltdown and blame anybody but himself.

My question is so what if hes not gonna get any better. Right now hes a decent pitcher in general and a good 5th starter. For the past couple seasons everyones been b****ing about our fifth starter problems well now he is our fifth. Would you rather let him walk and have our pitching prospects get rocked than having him 5th if hes our only option? No your gonna keep him here. If you have someone else better to replace him then go ahead. Whats everyones beef with Jon?

Over the entire course of the year he had nine very bad starts. About six too many to me. I dislike garland as much as you but you when contreras implodes he implodes. No denying that fact.

has he ever apologize to the fans for his comments he made???

Guys, no offense but this is kind of a pointless argument to argue who is the 4th or 5th guy, if ozzie isn't skipping starts it really doesn't matter at all.

Well I guess its pointless for us to argue about anything, considering we have absolutely no say in what happens to our club.

who Contreras? Contreras had 3 very bad starts with the Sox, and Garland had 9.

I disagree about that, just here it really makes no different who's slotted in which spot, imo.

But spring training is so far away! :P

I just can't believe there are some people here who are willing to put Garland ahead of Contreras, or would be unwilling to trade Garland for Randy Johnson or Javier Vazquez.

Haha, fair enough I think all of us are itching for spring training to come. The team is basically set and there is no baseball being played, really not much to talk about.

Of course Contreras only pitched with the Sox for a couple of months, unlike Garland who pitched for us for the whole season. And I'm sure Contreras' bad starts gave up more runs than Garland's, who only gave up more than 8 runs once all season long I think.

that was more than 8 last time I looked, but I did fail Algebra

and Contreras pitched a few good games, as did Jon, but Contreras was horrible for a while there, at least Jon was consistant..
