February 1, 200521 yr Here's a nice, fluffy thread. If this thread has been made in the past, please feel free to revive/merge. Growing up in the music industry and being exposed to all things music at a very, very early age, I'd like to think I know a great deal about music; but when I was asked this question today at dinner, I really had to sit down and think. Can such a thing exist? Its almost like picking which child you love more. Perhaps your choices will come a lot easier than mine. For me, its a toss up between "Wish You Where Here," by Pink Floyd and "In My Time of Dying," by Zeppelin. I can't wait to see the responses! What is your favorite song of all time?
February 1, 200521 yr This is a tough call, but off the top of my head. I'd go with "In My Life" by the Beatles. There are places I remember All my life, though some have changed, Some forever, not for better, Some have gone and some remain. All these places had their moments, With lovers and friends I still can recall, Some are dead and some are living, In my life I’ve loved them all. But of all these friends and lovers, There is no one compares with you, And these memories lose their meaning When I think of love as something new. Though I know I’ll never lose affection For people and things that went before, I know I’ll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more. Though I know I’ll never lose affection For people and things that went before, I know I’ll often stop and think about them In my life I love you more. In my life I love you more.
February 1, 200521 yr Bran Van 3000 - "Drinking In L.A." Hi, my name is Stereo Mike. Yeah, we got three tickets to the Bran Van concert happening this Monday night at the Pacific Pallisades. You can all dial in if you want to answer a couple of questions, namely, what is Todd's favourite cheese. Jackie just called up and said it was a form of Roquefort. We'll see about that... Give us a ring-ding-ding! It's a beautiful day. Yeah Todd, this is Liquid ring-a-ding-a-dinging, want those three Bran Van tickets man. Waddya think? Todd, you there? I woke up again this morning with the sun in my eyes, When Mike came over with a script surprise. A Mafioso story with a twist, A "Too Wong Foo, Julie Newmar" hitch, Get your ass out of bed, he said: I'll explain it on the way. But we did nothing, absolutely nothing that day, and I say: What the hell am I doing drinking in L.A. at 26? I got the fever for the flavour, the payback will be later, still I need a fix. And the girls on the bus kept on laughing at us, As we rode on the ten down to Venice again. Flaring out the G-Funk, Sipping on a juice and gin, Just me and a friend. Feeling kinda groovy, Working on a movie. (Yeah right!) But we did nothing, absolutely butkis that day, and I say: What the hell am I doing drinking in L.A. at 26? With my mind on my money and my money on my... Beer, beer! I know that life is for the taking, so I better wise up, and take it quick. Yeah, one more time at Trader Vic's. Some men there wanted to hurt us, And other men said we weren't worth the fuss. We could see them all b****ing by the bar, About the fine line, between the rich and the poor. Then Mike turned to me and said: "What do you think we got done son?" We've got a conclusion, and I guess that's something, so I ask you: What the hell am I doing drinking in L.A. at 26? I got the fever for the nectar, the payback will be later, still I need a fix. We need to fix you up, call me Monday and maybe we'll fix it all up. Hell-A-L.A., Hell hell-A-L.A.! ... So I ask you: What the hell am I doing drinking in L.A. at 26? Hell-A-L.A., Hell hell-A-L.A.
February 1, 200521 yr After further thought, I had to edit my selection because I listen to plenty of different genres and it's hard to chose. Rock- The Rolling Stones- "Paint it Black" Rap- Tupac- "Only God Can Judge Me" Salsa- Son By Four- "A Puro Dolor" R&B- 112- "It's Over Now"
February 1, 200521 yr Tough question to be sure. Toss up between "Time Loves a Hero" by Little Feat, "Birthday Carol/Baby Let's Swing" by Todd Rundgren, and "Uncle Remus" by Zappa. Unless I can count side 2 of Abbey Road as one song...
February 1, 200521 yr Coheed & Cambria - The Crowing I fed the clues of a lost day killed in motion But I thought of it so like there's no other way it could've been done Will they size my fit for a puzzle I wish not to play a part in it. A heart stained in hate, a feeling of fear will play circles. But you, you were my favorite But you, you know, you were my favorite I severed my ties to shroud this body under the streets of this city And wait for the day when I am summoned to walk across the face Well, slowly but clearer now, in visions that play and plague memories I loved them with all as the son should to mother and father But you, you were my favorite But you, you know, you were my favorite Would I walk through the door, shedding the light of all life? With the rise and reform, would I come as before? Pray you're not the only one Pray you're not the only... If given mistakes, would I take them back? If erasing them could, if erasing them would But would they be the words that I would say Your face and a door between I've parted three ways For you, the Newo that I love Did you ever really know before my face shamed to break? Did you ever really know before my mind scared to think? Did you ever really know before my name son to these? Did you, did you, did you come clean in the end from the start? Dear Ambellina, the Prize wishes you to watch over me Dear Ambellina, the Prize wishes all to watch over me I fought the decisions that call and lost My mark has the revelant piece in this I will come reformed In short, for the murders of those I court I bless the hour that holds your fall I will kill you all!! I will call you (I will cross you out!) (Dear Ambellina...) Out from shelter (...the Prize wishes you...) Burn your wings (Burn your wings!) (...to watch over me) You'll know no better/And learn their letters (Burn the core)

February 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) Tangled Up in Blue--either the Dylan version or the Indigo Girls one. I just love that song.... It took me a week to learn all those damn lyrics. Now it's something I play out almost every time I get a chance - which is not often enough sadly. She was married when we first met - soon to be divorced. Helped her out of a jam I guess, but I used a little too much force... Freakin' brilliant. Edited February 1, 200521 yr by FlaSoxxJim
February 1, 200521 yr QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 31, 2005 -> 10:41 PM) It took me a week to learn all those damn lyrics. Now it's something I play out almost every time I get a chance - which is not odten enough sadly. She was married when we first met - soon to be divorced. Helped her out of a jam I guess, but I used a little too much force... Freakin' brilliant. I could seriously listen to it over and over and over. And yes, I know ever word to that darn song. Some people may laugh about people nominating Bob Dylan for the Nobel Lit prize--but I think he deserves it.
February 1, 200521 yr Garth Brooks - Ireland They say mother earth is breathing With each wave that finds the shore Her soul rises in the evening For to open twilights door Her eyes are the stars in heaven Watching o'er us all the while And her heart it is in Ireland Deep within the Emerald Isle. We are forty against hundreds In someone elses bloody war We know not why were fighting Or what we're dying for They will storm us in the morning When the sunlight turns to sky Death is waiting for its dance now Fate has sentenced us to die. (chorus) Ireland I am coming home I can see your rolling fields of green And fences made of stone. I am reaching out won't you take my hand I'm coming home Ireland. Oh the captain he lay bleeding I can hear him calling me These men are yours now for the leading Show them to their destiny And as I look up all around me I see the ragged tired and torn I tell them to make ready 'Cause we're not waiting for the morn. *chorus* Now the fog is deep and heavy As we forge the dark and fear We can hear their horses breathing As in silence we draw near There are no words to be spoken Just a look to say good-bye I draw a breath and night is broken As I scream our battle cry. *chorus* Yes I am home Ireland We Were Forty Against Hundreds.....
