The frisbee is nice, but this year, I expect hitters to sit back and wait for it, he's gonna throw you one or two per at bat. I know it's a big adjustment for hitter, but I fear hitters are gonna start tattooing it for like 500 ft. homers. I wonder what that would do for Shingo's confidence.

That's what people kept thinking about Foulke too...

Lets go with the obvious. A pitch that the japanese leagues are famous for.

THE SHUTO!!!!!!!!

shuto: a variation on the screwball that is popular among Japanese pitchers

Japanese to English baseball terms

Good point and I don't want to open the 'did Foulke suck?' debate up again, I've seen it beaten to death. We saw hitters catch up to Foulke at times for a little while there, he adjusted and came back strong. It seems Shingo is trying to stay ahead of the game, good idea.

Could be, but would Don Cooper know the pitch?

He developed it in the offseason. I believe Shingo went back to japan during this offseason.

Cooper IMHO has few missions this spring.

Convince all the pitchers to keep the ball down.

Get the pitchers to throw inside a bit to offset their offspeed.

Keep Contreras from falling in love with his splitter.

That is all he has to do.

All I know is that if it is a cutter he better not go off and hurt himself with it. The last thing we need is for him to mess up his arm trying to throw it.

The screwball is the toughest on the elbow, I believe. Is there even anybody in MLB who throws one now?

Contreras is going to be project for Cooper.

Besides keeping him from using the splitter too much, he also needs to help Contreras get is fastball over the damn plate because thats one reason he used his splitter so much last year.

Jim Mecir throws one. The crewball is not that hard on the arm. It is just very difficult to throw with any command.

that is the biggest thing that he must do this spring imo. I remember that Texas game when jose only lasted like 1 2/3 innings or something, all the spilt finger pitches he threw were way to low or they were belt high
