Jas, you asked a question and then you locked the thread :P Your obviously pinning these threads, I think that's a good idea.

Ya, I realized that and was gonna post the question in this thread and then thought and figured the hell with it, they should be pinned :)

Get back to studying :rolly

You know what Brian, even though I think OSU is damn good they're going to have their hands full with SIU, the reason I say this is because OSU isn't a huge team and that should really help SIU who's guards can play with anyone's. First SIU has to get past st mary's though, that should be a great game.

St. Mary's is gonna beat them I think.

That's kooky talk!

Digger thinks that as well.

I have to disagree.

By the way, does anyone else think this is an extremely tough bracket? If Illinois wants to make it to St. Louis they are going to have their work cut out for them.

Texas- Fairly consistent.

Nevada- TOUGH. This is a damn good basketball team that isn't really getting talked about.

Arizona- Extremely difficult. Scares the hell out of me.

Oklahoma St.- Real good team. Actually, an argument for a #1 seed can be made for the Cowboys. When they are on, they are real tough.

We are really going to have to play our best to make it out of Chicago.

It's tough, but it's not that tough.

Living here in Austin, I can tell you that Texas isn't going that far. They may beat the Wolfpack, but Daniel Gibson doesn't handle the ball very well, in fact, that whole team doesn't handle the ball very well. I give them credit for bouncing back after losing PJ Tucker and LaMarcus Aldridge, but they don't have what it takes.

I don't know much about Nevada, so I won't comment.

Arizona...they are the Kansas of the West...they lose focus. They have a great player in Stoudamire and Hassan Adams, but after that...not much.

Oklahoma State does scare me, though. Joey Graham is a STUD!!! He will be a tough matchup for Augustine or Powell. But, if they do with him what they do with Hagen from Minny...Powell man-to-man and Augustine doubles as soon as he touches the ball...I think the rest of the Illini could beat the rest of the Cowboys.

IMO the Illini have a fairly easy road to the elite 8 but then it's going to be extremely tough whether it's zona or osu, I personally think they'll be playing zona in the regional final and I think zona matches up pretty well against them.

I'd much rather play Zona than OSU.

Teams that much up well with Illinois are ones with post players that are dominant. Arizona doesn't really fit that bill, and we all know Luth would shut down Salim :P

I'm actually pretty damn worried about Nevada.

Channing Frye ring a bell?? Haven't we been over this already :P The reason I think 'zona matches up well against them is that they start two players 6'10" or over. While Powell is a damn good player he's short for a power forward. I just think 'zona's size will give Illinois some problems. Also if Salim is hot they're going to be almost impossible to beat. I think that should be one hell of a game though.

Eh I was thinking May Simien dominant, Frye isn't better then Wilkinson and we all saw what he did yesterday.

...as you should be. They are a very good basketball team. I have them beating Texas in my bracket.

i dont know who to call for this game Alabama or Boston College

IMO bamas gone in the 1st round. but should they make it out, no way they can beat BC

Yeah I have Bama bowing out 1st round too.

Radenovic isn't really that much of a threat. He's more of a perimeter player anyways, kind of like Wilkinson only not as effective. I'd much rather have Frye than Wilkinson, if they give him the damn ball he can finish around the rim. Arizona would be a tough game, but I personally think the Illini would win because Arizona doesn't have very much diversity in their scoring. If you can stop Stoudamire or Frye from getting 20 you stand a decent chance of beating them, because the rest of their team is somewhat inconstent in scoring.

I personally think the Illini match up well against Oklahoma State. Powell and Graham are very similar players, although Graham is much more skilled. They are both very athletic and have similar size. I highly doubt that Graham gets more than about 12 if they happen to meet in the regional final. McFarlin is decent in the post, but he is not a scoring machine in the Wayne Simien/Sean May mode, so I think Augustine will handle him because he is more athletic. That basically leaves Lucas who Dee can definitely keep up with. Their other players like Curry, Bobik, Crawford, and the other Graham are not major threats. If the Illini can score 65 or more, I think they win fairly easily.

Frye is better than Wilkinson, IMO albeit not by a lot.

He's on a much better team, plays against better competition than Wisconsin does and is a guy with a lot of experience. One reason Wilkinson looks so outclassed against Illinois is because Illinois has better athletes, presenting huge matchup problems for Wilkinson. The same probably wouldn't be said for Frye, assuming they even get to Illinois.

A brief look at their numbers.

Wilkinson: 14.3 PPG, 7.3 RPG, 56 assists, 31 blocks, 45 Turnovers.

Frye: 15.9 PPG, 7.4 RPG, 61 assists, 66 blocks, 54 Turnovers.

OK so not a very good comparison.

How Davis, Turiaff or Maxiel?

I'd say the closest is Turiaf. Davis doesn't have the same, stamina, rebounding, or shot blocking ability, and Maxiell isn't as tall or agile. considering that Turiaf had 12 and 9 when his ankle was bothering him a bit, and they played only 3 days earlier in Washington where he put up 40 and 11, I wouldn't take that much comfort in that comparison.
