Brandon McCarthy To Make Major League Debut

Featured Replies

Assuming this is all true, I don't like it.

We need Duque and since everything is vague about his problems, I expect the worst.

B Mac might not be ready to dance on that kind of stage. As much as we all like him, it's a BIG demand.

Tomorrow's game will decide the series.

Was Hernandez at the game today? I didn't notice. If this was a serious problem, would he have been at the game?

He was there. WGN showed him smiling during the anthem.

Man, why against the Cubs? i don't like the fact that we have to throw someone out there in their first major league start against the Cubs. Don't we have other options? This makes us a big underdog Sunday especially against Prior.

Does anyone else find that comforting at all? I mean, he was happy and he was there. If the injury was really serious, would he be there at all, let alone smiling? I don't think so. Maybe I'm just being too hopeful though.

El Duque seems to need to shut it down for a couple of weeks every season.

probably just some tenderness in his arm.

cortisone, Celebrex, rest, and Uncle Hermie and He'll be back by June 1.

I'd rather have him face the Cubs than the Angels. The Angels are a scarier offense, IMO. Besides, the Cubs strike out a lot and BMac is a strike-out pitcher. He was supposed to start today, so he's probably going to be a little out of his rhythm starting on Sunday, but he'll be even more out of that rhythm if he has to fly to Chicago and then Anaheim.

Is it just me, or having won 30 games and massing a 5.5 game lead on the Twins, is this the last thing you wanted to see? For me it is. Even if BMac does come up and do well, the idea of him sucking balls and Duque going down for awhile is not one that is well to ponder. :crying

People have suggested moving Garland up so he can pitch Sunday and having B Mac pitch Monday. I say leave it as is, why risk screwing with Garland who is doing so well? If Count steps up tomorrow and we win, let B Mac start, if we lose Sunday, we lose, we've already won the series at that point. Saturday is a huge game suddenly.

I actually feel better with Brandon than Duque, especially after his last start. Orlando always seems to have a rough time in the first couple innings, and Prior is usually hard to get to. So, if the Cubs have a 2-0, 3-0 lead Prior is gonna get the Sox out. B-Mac seems to start games well, which could bode well for us.

I don't want him pitching yet at all. He isn't ready. Throwing him in that madhouse is a gamble. Aren't there any other in house options? I'd rather have Adkins for that one game.

Adkins has been awful. Cotts has only been used in relief this entire year, so he won't be able to last long enough. Arnie Munoz just pitched today. The only guy I can think of is Diaz.

Adkins has shown that he can't go more than 3-4 innings without blowing up. McCarthy is our best option, we can't keep going out and throwing in guys who haven't started before. It's McCarthy's time to pitch and show what he can do. If we brought Adkins, we would deplete our bullpen for the Angels series and you know that we will need a fresh pen for that.

I wonder what number BMac is gonna wear?

I'm gonna beat a dead horse here, Contreras needs to step up tomorrow so that we don't burn out the pen tomorrow. If Cotts and Politte are not used tomorrow, they can both go 2-3 innings a piece on Sunday, if neccesary.

If we win tomorrow, screw Sunday, we have bigger fish to fry.

Trust me, if AJ is catching the Count, it will be good.

If we win tomorrow, screw Sunday, we have bigger fish to fry.

Agreed, if we win tomorrow, we can look at Sunday as a pleasant surprise if we win and no harm done loss if our rookie loses to Prior. Win tomorrow and we all we feel plenty happy about the entire series.

We all knew that the Duke was gonna miss time this year..... he's gonna miss 2 starts or so.... and it wont be the only time this year he's gonna do it. That being said.... I like McCarthy's chances on Sunday to keep us in the ball game, if we can get into the Cubs pen and the game is still in reach.... i like our chances.

We win tomorrow and we can kick our feet up and relax on Sunday, I don't feel the need to sweep the Cubs. The only potential problem is if B Mac gets shelled early and we either have to leave him out there to rot and kill his confidence or go into our pen early.

Gotta, gotta win tomorrow.

Just a thought guys.

There's supposed to be big storms sunday.......

I don't feel the need to sweep the Cubs.

I understand what you're trying to say but I always feel the need to sweep and I think the Sox players and management will privately say the same thing.

game could be washed, which would make all of this talk useless.

Why not? This is the Cubs we are talking about. I would much rather him get his first big league start against a struggling offense that might not have Ramirez if his back acts up again. BMac has a tremendous makeup. He can control his emotions. I have faith in that. Cubs offense sucks right now.

If BMac were to pitch well in his first start to sweep the Cubs at Wrigley...Now that would be the ultimate confidence booster.
