Sox pick Ryan Rote RP Vanderbilt

Numbers on Rote are nothing to drool over.

anyone have a scouting report on this dude?

hes the all-time save leader at Vandy

Ryan Rote, rhp, Kiswaukee (Ill.) JC.

He was originally drafted in the 29th round by the Angels and is from Ill. Is a senior so an easy sign.

Lance Broadway will be conducting an interview on MLB radio after Round 5.

not the Vandy relief pitcher?

Power arm in the 5th round. Has mechanical issues but consistently throws in the mid 90's. Has a closers mentality, needs to work on his offspeed stuff.

I'm guessing Sox scouts loved his arm and obviously think they can tweak his delivery a bit. Should be a quick sign.

Oh thats just his JC info. He's from Vandy.

Real quick tidbit: My brother just called me, and he works for Baseball America. The people at BA started laughing after the Sox took Brooks. According to the people there, it was the biggest stretch of the draft.

Do any of the BA people work for a major league organization? Didn't think so. The Sox know what they're doing.

Come on, I'm just relaying what information I heard. Almost all of us were disappointed in the pick when we heard it anyways.

off subject what is wes whisler doing? any good?

Austin Jackson has not been picked yet. I guess teams were scared off by his desire to play point guard at GT next season. Looks like that decision is going to cost him a lot of money.

Thank god. Someone with some sense around here.
